Review summary

The Carnival Magic is a beautiful ship. Everything we needed was right at hand and I would highly recommend this ship to cruise to any destination.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We parked at the local park and go lot. Our shuttle delivered us directly to the pier and after a health screening questionnaire, we were escorted directly onto the ship. The check-in process has improved immensely. I was amazed when I found out they took our picture from our passport photo. We only had to stand in line for about 3 to 4 minutes and then we walked onto the ship. Couldn't ask for anything better.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
All in all, the food is very good. Good morning breakfast in the dining room was a little bit boring but it was doable. It sure beat the hog trough lines up at the Lido deck. Dinner at Cucina del Capitano was very enjoyable. The quality of the food served was exceptionally good. We also and red the steakhouse which was as usual, outstanding. Our server Alena, was very responsible reliable and this was her last night since she was expecting and would be leaving the ship. The main dining room was so good. We enjoyed everything but the tap water they served which was absolutely horrible.

Onboard Activities

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our cabin attendant, Buddy, made sure everything in our cabin was perfect. He always had ice bucket filled, towels refreshed morning and night, and the bed was turned down and perfectly folded. Food servers in the main dining room and at the Lido Buffet we're very helpful and attentive. We had a problem with our TV and Guest Services took care of it promptly replacing TV with a brand new TV.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Considering the quantity of passengers, we felt the ship was very clean and we never felt crowded.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
This is the first time we have ever had an ocean view Deluxe cabin. I was absolutely astonished to see that we had two separate compartments, the standard toilet sink and shower. The other compartment contains a sink and a tub. This would come in very handy for three occupants. But that was more spacious and easy to move around in. The sofa what's comfortable for watching TV.

Ship tip

One thing I would highly recommend courtesy and patience. When the elevator doors open, let people off the elevator before trying to enter. You do not need to be the first off the ship, first one in the dining room, first one to disembark, and don't cut lines at the Lido Buffet.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

5 out of 5

Grand Turk Island

5 out of 5
Unfortunately, the Grand Turk government would not let us disembark so we had to stay in port all day aboard ship. But the good thing was it was kind of like being at sea with a fabulous view.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

5 out of 5
We just did a walking tour again of San Juan. This was one of many visits and we were very familiar with the location.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

5 out of 5
Enjoyed the st. Maarten zip line

Tortola, British Virgin Islands

5 out of 5
We didn't do much here but we did enjoy the Dove Restaurant.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We placed our luggage outside our cabin and found it quickly on the dock. We waved on a Porter, he picked up our luggage and walked us directly through the Customs line. I'm sure adding a tip didn't hurt! I guess what work so well is we saw our Porter give another agent a tip to let us through.

Traveler Photos

Great review on the same cruise and enjoyed Magic!! We have been on Glory,Horizon and now Magic !! They are all comparable in size,Magic needs to be freshened up in drydock but still is a nice ship!! Horizon was our favorite but she was new when we sailed on her!! Glory had just came out of dry dock and the old girl was freshened up,Magic needs this!
