I would not go on Magic again. Pretty much done with Carnival and Caribbean. My first time cruising I was in my early 30s. What a difference in food, service, attitude of Carnival Corp. Suck you in and then say they can't do anything for you. Just nickel & dime you to death. They know about the health issues and just scrape by hoping they don't get caught - again. Magic is going into dry dock next year. Hope they fix the health issues first and get more help in kitchens and dining rooms. Food safety should NOT be negotiable! Pay a bit more and travel better.
Embarkation

Construction all over at FLL. No notice went out from Carnival. No signage, Traffic crawled at snail's pace. Good thing we left 2+ hrs. before or embarkation time! Needed a drink once we did get on board!
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
2 out of 5
Food safety issues: Food served cold or room temp (steak, Bearnaise sauce, most appetizers). Worker on buffet wore gloves but touched everything AND the food. Some people just don't comprehend the practice and the how and why of wearing gloves! OR, they are not taught. Carnival does NOT care. Some buffet items good (Sandwich area, Mongolian wok) I got either a touch of food poisoning or Noro. Either way, sick one whole night and one whole sea day. Still sick 4 days post cruise! Mold issues throughout. Moldy smell out of tap water. Shower was clean, water drained great. A/C was great. Cabin steward good. Anytime dining worked well. Ask for Budhi.
Onboard Activities

We were not interested in most; geared towards kids or overpriced (Bingo) for what you get (or don't get). Trivia is fun but hard to do when person has hard time speaking English. She was nice; but didn't know all the words. We just mostly relaxed.
Entertainment
Did not attend; saw same shows on another cruise.
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
All people working were very friendly, said hello and smiled. I believe most sincerely meant it, too. Front desk has routine responses &just say they can't help (in emergencies, etc).
Ship Quality

Design is fine they need to do a total rip out of carpets and treat mold issues, clean vent system and fix leaks to prevent further decay. Very unsafe and unhealthy for people with respiratory issues.
Cabin / Stateroom

Dark spot on carpet which was never cleaned, The floor manager did a "refresh" of our cabin when I complained of mold. He could not do anything about the water coming out of our faucet. We used bottled water. Beds were comfortable, we slept great. (except when I was sick).
Another Caribbean Island made up just for tourists with lots of chachkas being sold. I just stayed on board and did the spa. Have to say, I live in FL. Nothing new here.
Our itinerary was switched around at last minute and we had less time here than originally allotted. Had to cancel our original all day excursion; but, the bus tour of island was great, enjoyed it very much. Beautiful island. We were late leaving Port due to someone being medically evacuated. (LOTS of sick people this cruise)
Would have been good had I not been selected for 2nd screening d/t "FUN SHOPS" not being honest with us about "duty free" stuff. Waited an extra hour to get off. They pulled 50 people off the ship for this with only two agents working. Never again will I buy anything on board ship.
We were on The Magic last month. We had a great time. But I did notice the mildew smell from the water, especially in the stateroom. The previous month we were on The Horizon, and we all commented that the Horizon had the best tasting tap water of any ship we'd been on.
Wow u must been on a whole different Carnival Magic because we just got off in October our first cruise with carnival and loved it no mold, no health issues, all food areas was cleaned nothing major was wrong maybe you don’t need to cruise stay home you that miserable slots change from 30 years ago
First according to this person profile, they only been on 1 cruise on the Magic and another one planned for 2020. The Magic was my first cruise and loved every day of it. If you have food allergies it's your responsibility to make sure they know and always know. You're experience enough not to allow the small things ruin your vacation with your love ones or friends. You're looking at the small things like a spot on the carpet. In your 30's since your last cruise, I'm sure if you go to any place since your 30's things would be dramatically different. I bet you are even different than you were in your 30's, like not complaining about every little thing. Let's not forget the 3 L's, Live, Love and Laugh.
Sailed the Maigc 3 times and had a blast everytime. Vacations are what you make them. If you're one of those who complain about the little things, you should stay home.
Just got off the magic first of Dec. Excellent trip! I agree the buffet needs some work but plenty of yummy places to eat and no complaints from us. Sorry you had such a miserable vacation.
For someone who complained so much I would think you wouldn't use your profile picture of the very cruise line you say you'll never use again. Some people just seek out things to complain about.
Wow! I only cruise carnival! Never had a bad cruise... but then again, i feel most people that have a bad cruise, just have a bad attitude and like to complain about the small stuff..imo
Sorry you had such a poor experience. We are looking forward to sailing on the Magic in January. We will keep our eyes open for health issues.
Hope you find a cruise line that fits your needs.
Sorry to about the issues, the Magic was always my favorite ship to get on. It left Galveston several years ago.. and I shared and left a lot of great memories with the old girl. Hope the dry dock gets it back to her formal greatness for future guests.
