Review summary

We really had an amazing time and enjoyed this ship. I would definitely choose the magic again.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Everything was very organized easy to find and the lines moved very quickly. Check-in was quick and the explanation of our sail & Sign cards was much appreciated. Our room wasn't quite ready so we took the opportunity to check out the ship and get a bite to eat. We were in our room within the hour I'm very pleased with the ease of our embarkation.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Guys Burgers is the best thing on the ship and we ate it nearly every day for lunch. The blue iguana has excellent breakfast burritos and lunch selections. The pizza place is good and stays open very late. The breakfast buffet is okay. The dinner buffet is pretty good. The menu changes everyday and seems to be based on what they are serving in the dining rooms. We never ate in the dining room or at any of the specialty restaurants. We also didn't get a chance to have guys BBQ. It was available the day we got on the ship and the last day at sea only. The line was extremely long.

Pizzeria del Capitano

5 out of 5

Hot fresh delicious and open late. What is not to like?

RedFrog Pub

4 out of 5

We had several really good dinners here. The selection of dishes changes every night. There is generally a selection of beef pork chicken fish and pasta

Mongolian Wok

4 out of 5

They're open from 11 to 2:30 and are a good option for a lighter lunch. The food is good but they could easily offer a broader selection of vegetables.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
The serenity deck is wonderful for adults who want a more requite quiet relaxing area. The pool area offered a fun atmosphere of food music and drinks. The water park and mini golf we're very popular especially on the days at sea.

Guest Services / Excursions Desk

5 out of 5

We booked an Excursion last minute. The girl at the desk was very helpful and able to give us more detailed information about our choices. It took less than 5 minutes and we were on our way. Plus her Excursion recommendation turned out to be excellent

Beach Pool

5 out of 5

Great pool area with lots of deck space and plenty of chairs. There's always fun music playing and a nice breeze rolling through. Food and drinks are right there.

Internet Station

2 out of 5

The free internet is absolutely terrible. We couldn't get it to work on our phone so we tried the internet station and it didn't work there. We couldn't even get into the carnival sites from it. By the end of the week we ended up paying the fee for better internet which worked pretty well at the kiosks but was worthless on our phones

Serenity

4 out of 5

The serenity deck was great. There are lots of comfy padded chairs and hammocks and a hot tub. I would give it 5 Stars except they put it right next to the water park so the squeals of delighted children break up the serenity a bit

Entertainment

3 out of 5
We didn't go to the shows. The entertainers that they had out in public areas of the ship ranged from decent to get your cup of coffee as fast as you can and get the heck out of there.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our room attendant Ray was amazing and took excellent care of us. The staff as a whole was very friendly and ready to accommodate passengers every need. Room service followed up with us to ensure that we received everything and we're happy with our order. The cruise director really puts it all out there to try to make things fun.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
They work night and day to keep the ship clean. If you're up early enough you will see them wiping down the coffee cups at the buffet area literally one by one. The only thing that I would change about the layout is the location of the serenity deck right next to the water park. Water parks are fun and noisy and that just doesn't go along with the idea of serene.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
I am so happy that we upgraded to this balcony room. It was significantly larger then inside cabins I stayed on on previous cruises. The little couch and table area made it feel more like a suite. The shower and bathroom area were able to accommodate my 6 foot 8 traveling companion. There was plenty of storage with three closets and a few drawers. The balcony was the best part. It gave us the opportunity to watch the water and enjoy the breeze and I'm more private and quiet setting. I think we spent more time there than anyplace else on the ship.

Ship tip

Bring your own shampoo conditioner and soap. They offer some very generic shampoo and gel soap from pump containers in the shower only.

Ports of call

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic

3 out of 5
I would try an Excursion if I went back here. The shopping and pool area are fine but I can get that atmosphere at any touristy hotel resort anywhere. The cruise lines really need to add a beach

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

3 out of 5
This is another Port where I would recommend an Excursion. There are a lot of shops at the port but many of them sell the same things. There are few places to eat but they have no air conditioning so they are not very enjoyable. There is no beach close to the port. I would recommend an Excursion that get you to a prettier part of the island.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

4 out of 5
We did the Vivo Beach Excursion. The beach was very clean and the water was warm. The restaurant had great food and drinks. We felt a little cheated by the amount of time that we had there. There was some confusion loading our bus and we left a half an hour late. Also be aware that Puerto Rico time is one hour ahead of ship time. This meant that we had an hour less of beach time than we had originally thought.

Grand Turk Island

5 out of 5
The beach with free chairs and canopies is right off the dock. There's also food shopping and waverunner rentals. We had fun looking for shells on the beach

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
You have to be out of your cabin by 8 a.m. and your disembarkment time is dependent on your stateroom location and whether or not you carry your own luggage. We just to carry on our own luggage and we're on level 9 so we were some of the first people off. It took us less than 15 minutes to exit go through customs and find are shuttle 2 the airport. They had people from the shuttle companies right outside the port exit who helped direct us to our shuttle location. It was all fast and smooth.
