Review summary

Loved the Magic and the Crew, I would recommend this Cruise line, this Ship, and this itinerary to anyone and everyone. Besides my Wife and Myself our group of 18 included family from 4 states with various interest and everyone was able to find something to do both on and off of the ship.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Port Canaveral cruise terminal embarkation process was smooth, efficient, and painless. We arrived approx 20/30 mins ahead of our appointed time and although there was about 75 people on line, the process went quickly and we were thru the entire process in less then 15 mins.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
MDR was good to excellent but never bad, i enjoyed some items more then others and some items were lukewarm to cold by the time they reach the table, but since I didn't didn't have to cook or clean up afterwards it was all good. The service was outstanding as they were very attentive and were quick to address any and all concerns or problems.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Like most summer caribbean sailings the pools were crowded, but nobody really "swims" anyway so we picked our times and/or spots to take a dip in the two main pools, but the whirlpools became our favorite places to relax in the water. Slides and the water zone were a great place to cool off (kids were more then happy to dump a bucket of water on me) put put was both fun and challenging. There were plenty of activities to keep us busy.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Shows in main theatre were ok to good but none were great despite have some very talented performers. The lounge acts were surprisingly good, in fact these performers who move thru out the ship should not be overlooked. Comedy acts were the same as when you attend any comedy club hit or miss. Overall We enjoyed the multiple choices available to us.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Loved everyone that we came into contact with, even those who were not assigned to service us as everyone treated us as if we were there only concern. Lito our room steward is an extremely hard working man who would go above and beyond to ensure that we had an enjoyable cruise. Breakfast/brunch staff were just as attentive as our team in the MDR even though we never had the same team more than once. Even the customer service desk personnel were always pleasant even after dealing with the complaints of others they always greeted us warmly and were always helpful.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Crew and Staff were constantly cleaning and/or doing maintenance on the ship. No matter what the layout people are gonna get losts or turned around on such a large ship like the Magic, yet it seems to be zoned very well.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The room was perfect for the two of us, my only wish that the balcony was about 12 to 18 inches wider from the room to the rail and that the chairs provided were about an inch wider as I am 6'2 and 300+, but other that that we loved the balcony.

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

Did not do an excursion, but the embarkation process was excellent and everyone that i spoke to about this agreed that the port canaveral team does it right.

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic

Stayed in the Port area and hung out be the pool, watched the people on the zip line. Actually enjoyed this port more then we expected.

Shopped til we dropped!

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Got lost here, read about the free trolley here on this site but the post failed to mention that there are 3 or 4 routes and not all go to the fort(s), so we jumped off and made our way to barrachina for pina coladas.

Grand Turk Island

5 out of 5
Grand Turk is my favorite place to do nothing, we laid out on the beach under an umbrella eating a massive plate of nachos from Margaritaville, drinking 2 for $5 cups of rum punch and an order of jerk chicken from jack's shack. This was the perfect port for our last stop as all we wanted to do was just chill and unwind.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We self embarked as we would have been the last group off of the ship and would have missed our shuttle to the airport. Even so it went very smooth as the port canaveral team were very helpful with those who needed help going down the escalators with their bags. We were from ship to sidewalk in about 15/20 mins.
