While the trip to the Panama Canal is a trip of a lifetime, the Carnival Legend lack of a heating system put a very cold environment to the sailing. Not to mention the many cuts to the food services in the main dining room and room service. Be prepared to pay extra for most of your food. Carnival says it is to cut food waste??
Embarkation
1 out of 5
My embarkation was my worst experience ever boarding a cruise ship. I requested wheelchair assistance and was only taken as far as the side of the ship. I walked up the gangway but there was no wheelchair ♿️ for me so I was forced to try and walk the remaining distance. I only made it to some stairs and sat there until I was later found by a member of the crew doing the coast guard inspection. He and the coast guard inspector stayed with me until a wheelchair was brought to my location. I was then taken to my muster station and then onto my cabin.

Food and Dining
2 out of 5
This was the first cruise I ever left the main dining room still hungry. The portions were small and not enough for an evening meal. I returned to my cabin and ordered room service to complete my evening meal. Gone were the free items. Everything has a cost now. My favorite tuna salad was no longer available only a tuna sandwich with was very good I might add. For example, the crab cakes were the size of two thumbs, the lemon meringue pie had no lemon flavor at all and the dining room was too dark. There were way too many cuts on the menu. I will say this, the man Ken singed every night⭐️⭐️⭐️🌟 and he was fantastic. He should have been a headliner of a show. He reminded me of Frank Sinatra. The dining room entertainment provided by the waiter staff was good 👍🏿👍🏿, everyone enjoyed it. I purchased most of my meals from various vendors around the ship. The seafood corner was really good 👍🏿. The really tall chef cooks very good and everything is freshly prepared. The deli was free and very good 👍🏿. The ladies prepared great sandwiches to order.
Onboard Activities

I didn’t participate in any events because the ship was far too cold 🥶 me. Many other people complained about how cold the ship was also. Later I found out from management that the ship didn’t have a heating system which is why it was so cold.
Entertainment

Besides Ken in the main dining room, I found the entertainment lacking! With 3 people playing the violin 🎻 in the Alchemy bar almost nightly that got old very quickly. The entertainment in their centrum was very poor. There was a guy playing his guitar 🎸 but it was just not much to it as far as entertainment I’ve experienced on other ships. Plus it was cold there. There was rarely anyone dancing like on other ships. It was almost sad. I used the area to look out the window.
Service and Staff

The staff and crew were outstanding in every aspect. They were always happy to do what they could. Truly 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
The ship is truly a beautiful ship. People would say, lt’s an old ship, but you could not tell except for it being cold. It had been and is well kept. Not a speck of dust anywhere. The crew kept it that way all the time. Even the bathrooms were clean all the time. Old world design has always stood the test of time. The art on the ship and the elevators are first class. Again the ship is beautiful.
Cabin / Stateroom

My cabin was very nice and spacious however it was very cold. It was like staying in a walk-in cooler. Crew came 3 times but all they did was take the temperature and left. A fourth crewmen came and went into the ceiling compartment and I think he turned down the fan. The thermostat does not really control the cabin temperature or comfort level. The cabin was really cold most of the time. That was when management informed me that the ship did not have a heating system. I had to wear my hoodie all the time and once I had to wear my big coat because I was so cold. The cabin was just too cold.
Ship tip
The ship doesn’t have a heating system according to management and crew. You will need to bring warm clothes just to be on the safe side regardless of where the ship are going. The ship is very cold which may be and was a problem for senior citizens like myself.
Disembarkation went well except it was very slow for people needing a wheelchair like myself. When it was my turn, the wheelchair assistance was in sync. 👍🏿👍🏿
