Review summary

This was my first cruise, and wont be my last!! I really wasnt sure of what to expect, but this cruise indeed exceeded my expectations in almost every way. It didnt hurt that we had spectacular weather -- sun-filled days and moonlit nights and calm seas, and a great Western Caribbean itinerary for our seven night cruise on the Carnival Legend . We booked through (after I had searched several cruises on-line), and selected the Carnival Legend sailing out of Tampa based upon our departure date, the itinerary, and availability of flights from Boston to our embarkation port on a busy school vacation week! Once we had booked, I followed all of the Carnival site directions to pre-register, set up our Sail and Sign Accounts, etc and this truly made things easy for debarkation. recommended that we simply take a cab from the Tampa Airport to the Port, as it is a short ride , there is a flat rate of $22 per cab versus a per person charge if we opted for Carnival transfersgreat advice! I loved the Fun Day at Sea to begin and end the week it gave us a great way to learn our way around the ship, and find everything! During those days we lounged by the pool, worked out in the gym, and participated in a one mile On Deck for a Cure walk to raise money for Breast Cancer. We also enjoyed the big on deck party on Thursday evening!

Finally we did the Tabyana Beach Break in Hondurasand I wish I were still there! What a beautiful slice of paradise! This was our favorite of all. There were three departure times from the ship, and since we had teenagers, we opted for the latest. In hindsight, we all wish we had gotten up early to enjoy even more time at the beautiful beach. Tabyana offered very reasonable kayak rentals, beach floats, complementary lounge chairs, had a gift shop, restaurant and bar (where the specialty drink was the delicious Monkey LaLa) and hair braiding and massage ($1/min) were also available. The view was fabulous and you felt removed from the world, even though there were many others from the Legend there, it didn't feel crowded. The bus ride to Tabyana also gave a great mini-tour of the island and they stopped at some of the highest points for photos!
Don't Miss: In case you couldn't guess...Tabyana Beach Club!

We didn't have a lot of time to explore before our semi-sub excursion, but there was nice shopping for those who go on a cruise for shopping. Tenders from the ship ran frequently and never had to wait. We had two teens under 18, and you must go on an excursion with them, so I compromised and did their choice on this day. I would have preferred to see more of this lovely island, but was being a good mom!

Really didn't spend anytime downtown by the pier as we were whisked off to our excursion for the day "Clear Kayaking and snorkeling" . We were flooded by a rogue wave and our kayak started to sink, and the snorkeling off the beach was just okay, but the small, private, Ubas beach club was lovely and the staff couldnt have been nicer.

In Belize we took the catamaran ride to the Barrier Reef for snorkeling and THAT was fun, but even more exciting was being taken to Bannisters Cay, a private island with beach volleyball , and a great beach. We took the catamaran right from the ship, so never went into Belize City
Don't Miss: Snorkeling on the Barrier Reef was fabulous!! The private island was also a real treat!

Pros: Dining Room food and Wait Staff

Cons: Wish a few of the lounges with live music were non-smoking

Recommends Carnival Legend? Yes!
