Review summary

It did not disappoint in any aspect! This trip was 18 months in the making and worth the wait. The ship is gorgeous. The crew is amazing.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
I was really impressed with how quickly and efficiently Carnival got us on board since the ship's arrival was delayed due to a medical emergency. We were asked to delay our arrival by 1 hour. They worked really hard to get the other passengers off the ship so we could board. On the plus side we were able to go directly to our cabin.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Service was slow in the main dining room but that is to be expected on a new ship with a new staff. Definitely try the speciality restaurants. Loved the steakhouse, teppanyaki, street eats, Chibang and Emerald.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Sad that Bolt was only open 1 day but really loved the ride. I was disappointed in the thermal spa. They only had 3 of the saunas, the pool was small and there were not as many chairs. Also the thermal spa area was in the middle of the ship so no view.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The shows were excellent. We were sad that one of the entertainers was injured early in "Dear Future Husband" since the production started out fabulous. Glad he was ok. Carnival Rio was wonderful. Love the production in the theater but the one on Center Stage was even better since the band was on stage. We really enjoyed the two country singers.

Children's Programs

No children.

Service and Staff

They were outstanding. Our steward Rini was wonderful.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship was in great condition. I wish the thermal area had an ocean view. I really liked the smaller areas in the Lido dining area. I didn't like the stores on different decks. I also missed the glass elevators in the atrium but the stair cases were stunning. The center stage area is amazing. The ship is bright and cheerful. It was clean and tidy.

Cabin / Stateroom

The balcony was huge and it was really neat seeing where the ship goes. The forward camera was mounted right outside our balcony. While we enjoyed it we plan to go back to side balconies since we have a better view. Loved all the USB ports and US plugs - there were no European in the cabin. The bathroom was really nice with a glass shower door. The only negative was that there were no plugs near or behind the bed for my husband's CPAP. We found a USB adaptor for future trips. I wish there were a couple more inches between the tv and the end of the bed. I have a couple of interesting bruises from walking in to it. We loved the "secret" elevator from Deck 17 to the Spa on Deck 5. Also loved that there are no deck entrances to our area. It really cut down on the people passing through.

Ship tip

The ship is huge. Try all the different dining options, especially the street eats. The dumplings and potstickers are amazing. We loved Chibang and Emeril's as well.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

We didn't do an excursion. Galveston is fun and has a lot to do.

Cozumel, Mexico

Our excursion was cancelled due to weather. The other excursions we were interested in were also cancelled. We walked around the port area for a bit. We visited the turtles and Iguanas (my favorite). We stopped at the Three Amigos for Margaritas, Guacamole and Tacos.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico Did not visit port

The ship could not put in to port because of the weather.

Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

Beautiful port area and beach. Loved the chair lift. We did an excursion snorkeling on the reef and loved it. When we got back we rode the chairlift over to the private beach. The only negative about the beach is that folks don't ever leave the port area to explore the local culture but it is great for families with small kids. The port area had multiple shops and was very clean.

Disembarkation

I love the new process. You sign up for a slot. We also opted to let Carnival take our bags off the ship. We got up, got a table in the Lido Buffet and relaxed until our number was called. No issues getting an elevator at all. We grabbed a porter and followed him out very smoothly.
