Review summary

Had a good time despite three out of our 6 days were raining. Always tricky with winter cruises in the Gulf! Can’t control the weather, but it was a disappointment since there isn’t much to do while it’s raining at sea. But the ports were fun, and enjoyed spending a week at sea with the love of my life.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
- Embarkation was fine. We all received a last-minute request to delay our arrival time by 2 hrs since the ship was taking delivery of materials. So we respected the request and showed up at 12pm instead of 10am… But apparently no one else got the memo or cared, so practically the entire ship was boarding at 12pm. The port people did a great job of getting everyone on quickly, but the whole point of staged arrival is for covid safety.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
- The steakhouse experience on the first night was wonderful, the food is always top notch. Can’t say enough about the steaks and desserts! - The Hub app was working perfectly on this cruise. We had ZERO issues with sea day brunch & breakfast reservations, everything worked perfectly! We made the reservation, made the long walk to the coffee shop, grabbed a large coffee, and sat nearby while working the daily crossword puzzle until the app made the honking sound to let us know that our table was ready. Then we walked straight to the table, as intended.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
- So happy that the nightclub was open every night of this cruise. We often plan our evenings around dancing at night, and some ships don’t keep the club open every night. - This cruise appeared to be a CCL Premier gambling cruise. If I can avoid being on a Premier cruise in the future, I will avoid it at all costs. My first question to the travel agent before booking future cruises will be “is this a Premier cruise?” If the answer is yes, we will find another cruise. We met a lot of great people on this cruise, but we also watched more than a few very loud & obnoxious gamblers get overserved for an entire week. - Please make internet cheap & affordable on CCL cruises. I can’t emphasize this enough. I don’t want to stream music or movies; I just want internet access while at sea for a reasonable price. My credit card number was stolen during the first two sea days, and I would have gotten the alert at least a day sooner to do something about it.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
- The diamond/platinum party was a MAJOR disappointment on this cruise. It was only 30 minutes long and held at 5:30pm after our first stop at Roatan after all guests were back on board by 5:15pm… Sure the ship was filled with diamond/platinum members, but that is no excuse to cut short one of the only real perks of brand loyalty. CCL wants everyone to sail their ships again & again, and when people are actually doing that very thing they cut short the perks of that loyalty. I hope everyone complains about this pathetic excuse for a customer loyalty party.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
- Always a friendly staff on CCL cruises - dining room, stewards, casino bar tenders, entertainment squad. They genuinely want customers to have a great time on CCL ships. - Enjoyed reconnecting with Tessa, the shopping queen of England. We cruised with her on the Breeze in Feb 2020. She was very helpful when buying tanzanite from Diamonds Intl in Roatan, props to her! - Really enjoyed getting know Mark & Texas Ty with the Fun Squad. They are genuinely interested in getting to know the CCL customers. - Days before the cruise, our boarding passes were “not available at this time, reservation must be paid in full to receive boarding pass.” This appeared to be an issue that was caused due to a “travel agent commission recall” transaction, but we only found this out after getting in between CCL and our agent. Foolishly we called CCL to attempt to clear up the boarding pass problem (we were fully paid up for months) only to run into customer service rep Anna (AQM) who told us to hang up after a 30 min wait and contact the travel agent directly to handle the boarding pass issue. Ask yourself – how can the travel agent fix a CCL boarding pass problem? The negative? Anna was abrupt, unhelpful, unfriendly, and confirmed why we work through an agent instead of CCL directly these days. Lesson learned for me is to NEVER call CCL directly again, and ALWAYS go through an agent whom we have NEVER had a bad customer service experience! - For the life of me, I do not understand the Pixels strategy on CCL ships. Almost all ships are STILL printing every single photo they take. And clearly passengers are still complying and having their photo taken at every opportunity. But they throw TONS of them away and someone has to be paying for these, meaning they must be built into the cost of the cruise. I know there are at least a few CCL ships that are using the Hub app to review & purchase photos. To me this represents the biggest waste of money on CCL ships. Please make the conversion and put these photos out on the Hub app, as well as make them available to guests AFTER we are home from the cruise.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
- Smoke free casinos are FANTASTIC. Please implement this CCL company-wide! - The ship was extremely clean. All the usual spills & messes were cleaned up promptly, which is probably due to the reduced capacity of guests on the ship. Either way, kudos to the ship staff! - Wearing face masks everywhere on the ship was terrible. I understand that this is necessary theater in order to continue cruising, but we found ourselves finding quiet & unpopulated places to relax in order to ditch the annoying masks. People are eating & drinking everywhere on the ship at all times, so no one is fooled into thinking that masks will stop covid.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
- Hot & cold water problems in the stateroom for the first few days. The water from the faucet was either scalding hot or hot. Also very loud sex noises from next door in the very early mornings & late evenings. In all our days of cruising, the cabin walls have never been so thin that we can hear ALL the sounds of sexual activity next door and in the hall through the air vent. I don’t wish that experience on anyone.

Ship tip

- Bring an approved power strip with USB ports, bring earplugs for the incredibly thin stateroom walls, bring your own plastic straws since they have been outlawed, bring air fresheners for the rooms.

Ports of call

New Orleans, Louisiana

4 out of 5
- Cruising from New Orleans is always fun. On the Saturday night that we returned, there was a full moon in a cloudless sky. So we were able to watch as the ship reentered the Mississippi River, which is always fascinating. Hanging out at Riverwalk before we left is always fun too. Having a mall nearby just before you ship out is extremely convenient since you can buy things that you may have overlooked.

Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

5 out of 5
- The CCL excursion to Turquoise Bay Beach Resort would have been epic if it weren’t for the rain. Despite the rain, we enjoyed the food & hospitality of the people at Turquoise Bay Beach Resort.

Belize City, Belize

4 out of 5
- Belize was fine; we are still working to find the best experience at this cruise port. The Belize Party Bus was fun, and the rum factory tour was fascinating… but when we are the party on the fun bus? That really doesn’t say much. The food at the Celebrity Restaurant in Belize was excellent.

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
- And Cozumel… something is wrong with you if you can’t find something epic to do at this stop. I can’t say enough about the Paradise Beach Club; go there if you want to have a great time in a beautiful location in Cozumel.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
- Debarkation was smooth as silk for platinum members. Walked off at 7:15am and was returning with the car by 8:30am. The facial recognition customs kiosk was awesome. Always very strange that we don’t declare anything anymore.
