Review summary

The cruise was just ok. The ship needs an overhaul and the sea days were boring, as it was too cold to be up on deck most of the days and the activity schedule during the day had a lot of blank time. The cruise director Lee Mason was a lot of fun, and the fun squad really tried. The crew overall was good. The ports were fun for the most part. The food was good in the MDR but the buffets were kind of a let down. The cleanliness of the ship left a lot to be desired. The worst part of this cruise was that basic things like hand sanitizer stations and hand washing sinks were continuously out of order. I got sick 3 days after disembarking and learned that over 100 passengers on board were positive for flu A after disembarking.

Embarkation

The port of New Orleans was very organized and embarkation was quick and easy!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The food in the MDR was excellent, but the Buffett left a lot to be desired. We rarely eat the buffet but the few times we did, it was not very good.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
We had 3 sea days and so much empty space with few scheduled activities. We sailed on the Glory 2 years ago with a different cruise director and never slowed down. We were very disappointed that there was so little scheduled especially given that the weather didn’t allow for much time spent on deck due to rain and cold temps.

Entertainment

2 out of 5
The Amber palace entertainers were some of the worst I’ve ever experienced on a cruise, the men in particular. The piano bar singer was off key and refused to sing a requested song unless you have him money. The only shining star was Lee the cruise director and Francisco and Michelle from the fun squad.

Children's Programs

We did not travel with children.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The waiters and room stewards were amazing! They were the best part of our cruise!

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
This ship needs a major overhaul! So many things broken or out of order. We were on deck 2 and it reeked of sewage the entire week. Half the sinks and soap dispensers and hand sanitizer stations weren’t working most of the time. Our hot water didn’t work the first day, but was fixed by our 2nd day after we reported it.

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
The cabin steward did a good job, but the cabin itself smelled like rotten food or sewage the entire cruise.

Ship tip

Wait until it’s been overhauled, or set your expectations low because this ship was sent to New Orleans to die!

Ports of call

New Orleans, Louisiana

5 out of 5
They did an excellent job and were very organized with embarking and disembarking.

Montego Bay, Jamaica

There is nothing at this port so you have to book an excursion if you plan to leave the ship. We did the Dolphin Encounter and Doctors Cave beach excursion. The excursion itself was fabulous but the guide was consistently asking for tips and promoting marijuana that it really took away from the overall experience. I would not recommend Montego Bay as a port of call.

George Town, Grand Cayman

5 out of 5
We did not book an excursion and instead spent the day exploring the town and port area. We shopped and explored and really enjoyed our time here.

Cozumel, Mexico

2 out of 5
By far our favorite of the 3 ports. We did the Ancient City of Tulum excursion and highly recommend this.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Very fast and well organized.
