Carnival Glory

5 Night Western Caribbean (New Orleans Roundtrip)

Sail date: April 08, 2019

Ship: Carnival Glory

Cabin type: Balcony

Traveled as: Couple

Reviewed: 5 years ago

Review summary

This cruise was all about pushing booze and the overpriced goods to buy. Understand Carnival are PARTY ships but this one was over the top. Getting drunk everyday and buying things I don’t need is not my idea of a relaxing vacation. Won’t do another Carnival cruise.

Embarkation

Ok

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Potions small. Several entrees sent back. Very little variety in buffet.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
elevators periodically out of service; excursions were good but online descriptions were too cryptic;

Entertainment

2 out of 5
The PR comedians were funnier than the R ones. Stage shows — need at least one famous or semi famous person. Music was too loud everywhere.

Children's Programs

No children with us.

Service and Staff

2 out of 5
Hire more bartenders— too long of wait and they need to learn to smile! Wait staff— more training. Some were finished eating while others at the table were waiting to be served. Have no idea who our steward was.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
Clean as it could be. Ship definitely needs a remodel. Laundry— dryer went for 45 minutes and clothes were still very damp. Paid $3 and dried clothes hanging all over my room.

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
Cabin was fine. Definitely needs some maintenance and TLC throughout the ship.

Ship tip

Bring extra cash! And ear plugs.

Ports of call

New Orleans, Louisiana

4 out of 5
Loved NOLA but we did it on our own before the cruise. Don’t miss Oceania restaurant (marvelous) and don’t bother with Daisy Dukes or Ruby Slipper.

Cozumel, Mexico

2 out of 5
Snorkeling time too short. They kept pushing booze on us.

Progreso (Merida), Mexico

3 out of 5
Better. More time at the ruins but the beach after was way to short. Lunch was so so.

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
Not bad. Went pretty smoothly.

Sorry you had such a bad experience. We are not drinkers but had a wonderful time on the triumph.. we even took a tour at the tequila factory and was not pushed into drinking the samples. It is all on how you perceive it. We are looking so forward to our cruise on the Glory in May. Yes it is what you make of it so we are making it a better cruise this time around on the Glory since we will be doing our vow renewal. While I regret you had such a bad time may I suggest you look for the good in your cruise or what about the memories you made? Were there any or do you cruise alone. Well better luck next time. God bless

A cruise is what you make of it. Thank you for not sailing Carnival again. We don’t like unhappy people.

Good grief! You were determined to have an awful time. If you know Carnival ships are the "party ships" and you're not interested in the party atmosphere why in the name of all that's kind and good would you book with Carnival? Makes no sense to me but to each his own.

I absolutely loved the Glory. My family and I do NOT drink and we had a blast. Sorry it sucked for you but I think a cruise is what you make it. 🙄

What were they twisting your arm to buy booze?

Seems like a cruise is not for you bud. Every time I go on a cruise we have a good time. Seems like you just need to stay at home next time.

Sounds like my kinda party!!!! That’s the way the majority of cruisers want it. I don’t purchase the drink package for nothing. Yum yum.

What was extra? Out of all of the cruise lines we’ve sailed on (Carnival, NCL, RC and Princess) Carnival up charges the least. Princess charges an arm and a leg to use their adult only area. Every cruise line has up charge restaurants, there is always a charge for alcohol and soda packages and the spa is NEVER free. Not sure how they’re forcing alcohol on you either. Yes, there are servers on the Lido deck, the Casino and in the theater/lounges that come around and ask you if you’d like a drink but they certainly don’t try to pour drinks down your throat. They are just doing their jobs AND they are there because a majority of cruisers want them to be, even just to order a soda or a water. I’ve never been badgered to purchase merchandise either. Sounds like cruising isn’t your thing. Maybe you should try a different kind of vacation.
