Review summary

We are 3 members of a family who sailed on the Glory from Miami to western Caribbean on December 30, 2017. We have been on many cruise ships over the years and had sail Carnival several times before. The Glory is an old ship. The staterooms and public areas are dated and in desperate need of remodeling. Our cabin number was 8384. Dated, and noisy at nights because the Lido deck with pools and restaurants is just above. The ship’s layout is certainly awkward, and sometimes you feel as if you are on a labyrinth when moving around. The food quality and variety are certainly average. On the first two nights of our cruise the main dinning room service was substandard. The wait lines were up to 45 minutes to 1 hour. The waiters service was rude, lacking the most elemental table manners. They acted as if they were stressed-out and couldn’t care less for guest satisfaction. This situation improved after the 3rd night. They apologized by sending a few chocolates to our room. We had a terrible experience when my wife became seriously ill due to food poisoning at the Lido deck buffet. On December 30 and 31 she only had food at the ship because we were at sea. She became ill from diarrhea and vomiting starting on New Year’s Eve and continued through the New Year. The food poisoning resulted in a gastric disorder which caused chest pain and she had to be taken to the medical facility. They charged a $255 medical bill and refused to assume any responsibility or to waive the charge. Not even an apology was given. Certainly, Carnival could be one of the largest cruise companies, but their attention to customers has decreased to unacceptable levels. CARNIVAL… NEVER AGAIN!!!

Embarkation

Few staff to direct you. Arrived onboard through a strange entrance. No welcome drinks or staff to greet you. Overall average.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
Food quality below average on the main dining room.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Pool and other activities were ok, but almost always crowded.

Entertainment

2 out of 5
Poor quality and variety of shows.

Service and Staff

2 out of 5
The waiters at the main dinning room seemed to be always stress-out. Were distant and not concerned about customer satisfaction. Room steward service was average.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
Dated ship in need of refurbishment. Hallways, rooms and bathrooms not too clean, maybe because they are so old.

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
For the price we paid, the cabin was dated, not nicely furnished. TV and fridge were very old.

Ship tip

Stay away!!! Find better options on other cruise lines for similar or maybe lower price.

Nice. We took a beach tour which was ok.

Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

I think beaches are the best for touring. Because of rain, we took the city tour which was a wastre of money.

Belize City, Belize

Nice. We took the Mayan ruins tour which was great.

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
Playa del carmen is beautiful. We took the Chichen Itza Mayan ruins tour. 6 hours drive for a 30 minutes tour of the ruins. The Mayan ruins are awsome, but too long a ride for such a short tour. No time for shopping.

You should have bought travel insurance. The cruiselines are in no way responsible for your bills for services provided. Poor planning overall on your part.

I got legionnaires disease a few years back. I didn't sue Carnival or expect a refund. Wow things just happen.

Are you sure it was food poisoning? I had norovirus before and thought it was food poisoning until told that there was an outbreak of it where I work.

We went twice on the glory. It's old but most areas are still really great. I think you just had a bad experience with whatever made you sick and so the whole trip was bad for you.

We loved the glory but to each his own. Food poisioning comments are always my favorite. Have worked as a chef for 25 years and am so sick of ppl blaming food. Did your wife possibly come into contact with any person or surface that could have been the source of her sickness, or was she in a hermetically sealed bubble rolling around the ship??? Did you have the food tested for pathegons??? Did she wash her hands after using utensils hundreds of other ppl had handled b4 eating??? No wait u said its the food so thats gotta be gospel. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ppl like this make me crazy

Our first cruise was on the Glory and it was wonderful! I'm not sure what you are talking about, it's a beautiful ship. Sorry you were unable to have a good time on a cruise...

We sailed on the Glory a month before this person. Our experience was exactly the opposite. We had a fantastic time. This person only proves, you can't please everyone, no matter how hard you try.

I love when people complain. That their room is noisy, and state that lido deck or dining room or dance club, ..is just above it. If you pick your room, it's your fault for not paying attention to the placement. And if you didn't pick, then it's your fault too, for not picking. I have never had a wait at all I. The dining rooms, maybe it's because I don't do anytime dining.
