Review summary

My husband and I just got back from our first cruise aboard the Carnival Glory. It was a fantastic ship to break us in. It is a mid-sized ship with plenty to do. Trivia, demonstrations, and shows galore. The singers and dancers for the nightly shows were amazing. The first couple of days were rocky because of  bad weather, but they kept us busy and we didn't notice the decks were not closed. Our ocean-view room was roomy and had plenty of clothing storage. The views were AMAZING. The only critique is the walls are paper thin and you can hear everything going on in the room next to you and in the halls. The best part was the crew. Everyone was very helpful and personable. There were several that knew us by name by the end of the week. The ports were fun, but I wish we stayed at them a little longer. We left San Juan at 3 PM, and we felt a little rushed. The only other critique we had was the food in the main dining room. It was not seasoned well and the quality seemed low. We ate room service or grabbed sushi for a little extra money a couple of nights because we were not impressed with what they had to offer, but it's hard to complain because it was all inclusive. The spa is very nice and the services are great, but they will try to sell you products at the end so be prepared. Overall, the ship is beautiful and fun. The cruise director, Eric, is a lot of fun and very professional. I wouldn't mind taking another cruise on the Glory.

Oceanview is worth the money! Roomy and spent many days just enjoying the view from my comfortable bed.

Ship tip

The normally slammed Serenity Deck is always quiet in the evening during the first main stage show and early dining. Snag a hammock and watch the sunset.

Ports of call

Miami, Florida

Little Havana is a wonderful cultural center, but be careful of restaurants and gift shops working with the tours. They tend to be more expensive and can be pushy when selling.

Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (Private Island)

Don't expect to see too many fish if you snorkel. It's the most beautiful beach you'll ever see, however.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

Highly recommend Blackbeard's Castle; do the rum tasting if you can. Downtown is very crowded, but you can get the best deals in the straw market if you like to haggle. Food is ok; lots of chains.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Our favorite port! If you do not have an excursion, follow the wall to the very end and see the gate where travelers would crawl on their knees to the cathedral in Old San Juan and follow the blue cobble stone road to some amazing shops and restaurants. The visitor's center has all of the information you need to decide what to do- and there is plenty!

Grand Turk Island

Snorkeling is amazing. Plenty of water sports and TIP: if you don't want to spend ship prices for a message, they offer beach massage starting at $20 for 15 minutes.

3 1/2 more weeks and I'll be back on Glory. A little disappointed that Erick will be off then but I've heard Dustin Gabriel is great.
