Potentially great, but didn't quite get there!

Review summary

The ship is adequate to provide all of the 'bells and whistles'. However, when I attended a live show, Love & Marriage, I was greatly offended by the MC/Cruise Director. The audience was asked, "Who has been married the longest?". My neighbors, Joan & Ernest Bryan responded, "56 years!". He then asked was anyone married longer with an auctioneer's attitude, "Anyone 55, 56, or longer?" Another couple, said "50 years!". He then proceeded to bring them to the stage and proclaimed, "Okay, as our longest married couple...". It wasn't fair and biased, in my opinion. Joan and Ernest, appeared to be handicapped and are African American. Either, he did not want a handicapped couple or a black couple! Either way, it left a bad taste in my mouth. If he had not identified the white couple as "the longest married couple", or had asked Joan and Ernest if they would have difficulty coming to the stage or if they would like to participate, it would have squashed my issue on the spot; but he did not! I contacted him, via a note, and he spoke with my wife with a plethora of excuses, but didn't acknowledge his bias. I realize that it can be painful to acknowledge our mistakes, but that's the first step in correcting them.

Wait a minute if there was another African American couple selected why would you presume it's race related? Maybe just miscommunication?!

The cruise director is Eric Brouman.

Who is the cruise director on the Glory, was he the one doing the show, it might have been an oversight, he forgot

I was on this same cruise when this happened and it clearly wasnt race because a black couple was in the game. I wondered why he picked them too but it was only a game...

Maybe the MC heard someone say 56 years but didn't know who said it. You should have said - 56 years here! My husband & I were selected as longest married couple 3 years ago on my daughters wedding cruise my leg was injured, wrapped and had to use a cane. Handicap probably not the issue either. We had fun! Good luck next time!

I wonder and it just a thought he messed up on the years forgetting that you're friends were married longer also I wonder why the other couple didn't speak up and said no the other couple was married longer I have witnessed this when somebody makes a mistake like that they polite decline and point out who really wins all is happy

We just got off the carnival glory and he selected us as his newlywed couple...my husband is African American. Even after the show he invited us to the lobby and gave us drinks, on him. So I don't think race could be the problem. Not sure why that happened 😕

I was on Glory towards the end of May and attended the Love and Marriage Show as well. He selected an African American Couple as the shortest married couple so I don't think it's race. Could it be the handicap I'm not sure.
