We've never tried Carnival Cruise lines and wanted to due to price and availability of destinations. We'd heard some rumors of it being full of partiers, drunk people, too many kids, etc so we were prepared for that since we're an older couple (50-60's). We didn't find that to be true. It was a good mix of ages and we didn't hang out by the main pool or slide so we were able to relax by the adult only pool in the back of the ship. The ship crew was great for the most part in dining room, guest services and room attendants (outstanding!). Bar service personnel not so great. The ship was always clean and well kept continuously. It didn't have a lot of variety of food in the buffet and was pretty tasteless. The buffet seemed to close down way to early to accommodate anyone who did a late lunch or came in from port. The dining room food was good but not great like we've found with other lines. We loved the Blue Iguana restaurant and Guy's Burgers were good. We did the steak house and that was great. My husband actually ordered steak house entres in the dining room because the daily choices were so bland (extra cost). The room service menu didn't have a full service breakfast other cruise lines offer (cold items only). The main complaint we had was disorganization for large endeavors such as shore excursions and debarkation at stops and end of trip. They never seemed to have enough staff to handle the large crowds and made it very frustrating. While we had great weather, enjoyed the stops, it just wasn't something we'd do again. Will choose another cruise line in the future.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Main dining room food good, but not great. Buffett was tasteless, not enough variety and closed to early. Blue Iguana was great, Guy's Burgers ok. Steakhouse was great. Room service menu very limited, especially for breakfast (cold continental offerings only). Pizza Pirate was great but who pays the money to eat pizza and burritos on a cruise all the time?!
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
Seemed to be alot offered, we didn't participate in a whole lot, just wanted to relax. We played bingo twice. The crowds were just too big around the lido main pool to enjoy so we escaped to the back adult only pool, back of lido deck. Never enough chairs though as usual, although staff did do a good job enforcing adults only which was nice.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
Singers and dancers were outstanding. We loved the Motown and Epic Rock shows. We only went to one comedy show (adult late night) and didn't find it too funny. Didn't really attend anything else.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Room attendant Ariel was outstanding, brought us extra ice in a large bucket every single day when we told him we like ice! Edgar in the main dining room was fun and very outgoing. Bar service personnel always too rushed, didn't seem very friendly. We had to almost always go get drinks by the pool, never came around.
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
Cleanliness was great, never any issues. I'm giving it a lower rating due to the design of the ship. It seemed much more confusing than other ships we've been on, couldn't get up to certain levels on elevator, couldn't find right openings and there are absolutely NO signs except right next to the elevators and above the main hallways. They need more directional information! We thought it was just us at first but we kept finding multiple people with the same complaints just as lost as we were.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
First time we wanted to try a wrap around balcony cabin, aft (back) of the ship. This room did seem a bit larger all around and the balcony was definitely larger. Had 2 chaise lounges and 2 regular chairs plus small lower tables. It did seem narrower though. We like having breakfast on the balcony with room service and would never be able to do it here as 1) no large higher table and 2) room service only offered continental cold breakfast unlike other cruise lines. Didn't like that the cabin to the immediate left of ours could peer over the side directly into our stateroom though! Had to make sure we had curtains closed for privacy. Cabin was always very clean and well maintained. They had a lightbulb go out overhead which we didn't notice but the room steward did and had it replaced immediately. We had one complaint with the room in that it didn't have a sofa bed as other cabins, just an extremely small chair. We're both bigger sized people and couldn't even sit in the chair it was so small! We do like to relax in the cabin occassionally and don't want to always sit on the bed, not very comfortable. The room steward brought us a bigger chair from the lido deck which helped. The air conditioning in the room was excellent! Best we've ever had onboard a ship. It was a bit bumpier feeling being at the back but that doesn't bother us (actually lulls me to sleep as it swings a bit back and forth feeling). I thought the bed was extremely uncomfortable, but my husband loved it. I ended up coming home with a bad pinched nerve in my back and needed chiropractor to help unkink me. We picked the room at the back of the ship our own fault, but almost everything else was at front of ship, our dining, the shows, casino. We did WAY too much walking and will never be in the back again! Even a walk to the elevators. We learned from this mistake!
Ship tip
If you chose aft (back of ship) cabin, you will be walking everywhere and does swing more in the back. The Fish and Chips is extremely hard to get to from outside! Easiest is to go directly up from the lido buffet, we didn't think it was that great for the trip.
Almost all hispanic, spanish speaking, hard for both parties to understand each other. Extremely busy and I would never drive here. I would choose a different port.
I would book stingray city off the boat for excursion. I think the length of the time spent and being able to feed the rays more happens on offsite excursion. Beautiful island though.
We did the underwater helmet dive and wouldn't recommend it. More just a walk on the bottom of ocean, stopping to get pictures (which they want you to buy at $55 a pop). We took our own underwater camera. Last year we did the underwater scooters and that was much better, more hands on. Beautiful area and lots of shopping.
Never saw signs, and I am a rule follower. But I understand what you are saying. We had a family during diner the last 3 nights the kids were literally climbing the walls and sliding down, and the parents were helping them, but dining room staff "can't" say anything to them
