Review summary

Overall, it was a decent cruise. However, besides the shore excursions, there isn't much to do on the boat but drink and sunbathe on the deck. That would be fine for most but my wife doesn't drink so we were expecting a wide variety of activities and shows inside the ship. The few stage shows they did have were subpar but the comedy shows were great. Other than that, you could expect karaoke and plenty of action in the casino but that was about it. The food selection for both the assigned dining in the restaurant and the buffet option was terrible. Having a burger and taco joint on the ship helped but they were always closed in the evening when you needed them the most. Pizza was served 24 hours which helped as well. There was really no reason to have a cruise elegant night since most of the Captain's crew only shook hands for a few minutes in the casino. Royal Caribbean cruise line puts on a show centered around introducing the crew to the cruisers, which made it way more fun. And not to blame Carnival but I may think twice about getting a balcony in the future. You can't smoke on the balcony (well, blame Carnival for this) and the doors close pretty heavily so all you hear are the balcony doors slamming during the night. I will say that the crew kept the ship spotless and well sanitized which made living there for a week more comfortable. My wife and I will most likely look at other cruise lines for our next cruise and/or go back to Royal Caribbean.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Definitely need a better selection of food in the main dining rooms and buffet

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Definitely needs review; should diversify activities to cater to every age group and those who may not just want to party, drink, and sunbathe all day.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Most stage shows were subpar; comedy shows were great. Not much entertainment overall.

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
Didn't take any kids but from what I saw, there were a few designated, age-appropriate rooms and activities for kids. Most stayed in the pool though.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Crew was very attentive and kept everything clean. I loved the diverse group of individuals working on the ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The cabin was very clean and our room attendant made sure it stayed that way. It was my wife's birthday on the day of embarkation so the room was set up prior to our arrival with decorations and a box of cookies. The view from the balcony was great.

Ship tip

Don't purchase spa treatments in advance. Wait until on the ship. They always have last minute specials. Consider purchasing a bottle of alcohol prior to your cruise, which you can consume onboard. If you wait until on the ship, any liquor purchased will be held until the end of the cruise.
