OceanSky, lol, my kids have kids (We have 9 grandchildren), and they have taught their kids to behave. I agree 100% that kids misbehaving should be dealt with, primarily by making their parents accountable. I think that is an absolute, to hold the parent's feet to the fire because of the ill behavior of the kids... intentionally spilling food on them or tripping them? Worse than the kids' behavior , in my opinion... Sheesh, I haven't encountered behavioral issues like that on a cruise. I sure hope that I didn't jinx us...😮

Dutch3901 - from the sounds of it, your children are well behaved and supervised. Kids like that are (for me) a joy to have on board. I think it's great to see a family making vacation memories together. And the kids that cause the problems are the minority of kids on board. Unfortunately the ones that we've been complaining about can take a lot of joy out of a cruise. An exam... On one of my cruises there was a group of boys who appeared to all be between the ages of 12 and 16, and they were holy terrors! One of their favorite things to do was to run down the hallways yelling and laughing as they knocked on various cabin doors and removed "Do Not Disturb" signs from people's doors. This took place around 3:00 AM on 4 different nights. This same little group would toss various food objects at each other and on one another's plates while in the buffet line on the Lido Deck and would plant themselves in one of the hot tubs and make loud crude comments about the girls who walked past. The only time I saw Carnival do anything about them was when my husband and another gentleman complained about the little darlings deliberately dropping food into one of the hot tubs on the Serenity Deck. This kids were just completely out of control and not once did I ever see an adult with these kids. And the fact is I don't think these kids were "bad kids". To me they were simply "unsupervised kids" with BAD PARENTS!

Oh my garsh- this went from "children running around the ship" to "bad kids" (they never said that- just kids) to "to drunk" ( who said the parents were too drunk?) to "bad disrespect parents" "shouting profanity" "put the family off at the next port" "trip the brats as they run by" (what?!?) etc. They are kids having fun doing what kids do on a family vacation. Expending energy. I seem to be in the minority (and yes- our children were made to behave, and were not out of our sight unless supervised by an adult that we knew). I see the unruly kids, but I also see a lot of well behaved families as well. I have walked over to a table to talk to the parents if their kids are not doing well at the buffet and let them know their child needs adult supervision. No problem doing that again. When school is out, we can all expect to see more kids than when school is in...

@ ktnstar - No, but there was the now famous Lido Deck incident of 2015! Hey, if you're 12ish and not smart enough to know that you don't but in line and stick your dirty little hands all over all the sweet rolls and melon slices, despite being requested to use the tongs on 2 different days, then I think you deserve to accidently have some one bump into you and treat you to a bowl of oatmeal all over your shirt. The food was cold so the kid wasn't hurt, but the look on the little brats face as people pointed and laughed was priceless! Just goes to show if you're acting like a brat, accidents do happen.....

Ever stick your leg out "by mistake" and trip the little running brats? Oops, you shouldn't have been running in the hall.

Ask any doctor, kids shouldn't be in a hot tub. I've owned hot tub and the instructions warned me against kids for more than a few minutes. They don't need to raise prices. 2.1 billion NET revenue last year. 13% year to year growth in revenue this last quarter of '17. They don't want to upset those drunk parents paying for their financial performance.

Ocean sky ... I think that's a great idea midnight is fair enough you should sent this on to carnival 👍

again, amen. oceansky can you run the cruise industry? just getting crew members to enforce the rules at the pools would be nice, adults only means just that, ADULTS ONLY . why can't we adults have a place or time that is just for us.....they have kid only areas

OceanSky    7 years ago

If they upped the price of a cruise by $5.00 a head, they could easily afford to hire a few crew members who's total job would be policing the packs of kids and getting people to take their non-housebroken toddlers OUT of the pools and the freakin' hot tubs. I'm sorry, but a crappy pull-up in a pool or hot tub isn't just against the rules and disgusting, it's also a major health hazzard! Haven't these parents ever heard of e-coli bacteria?? The risk of infection is so high that if any fecal material is seen in the pool, they are required to close the pool, empty it, and sterilize it before it can be used again. This means that for the better part of the day NOBODY gets to use the pool! Yeah, a few crew members serving as kid watchers could make a good cruise a GREAT ONE!

Maybe they should let folks record the little angels shouting profanity and acting up then play it on the big screen for the rest of the cruise. Oh wait, that would probably encourage them to do it more. Couple weeks ago I saw video of kids jumping from a second story deck into the pool below. Right beside a sign that says not to. If they had to put a sign up, you know some other kid did it before. Yet when the kids get hurt you know they'll be calling lawyers.

mmmcksm    7 years ago

amen. well said. that is one of the things I dislike s sailing. I have been on 36 cruise in the past 40 years and the kids are less disciplined and more out of control every year

OceanSky    7 years ago

It never ceases to amaze me when parents turn their 12 - 16 year old completely loose on a ship and leave them to their own devices. Geez, you've got to wonder if back at home they're allowed to stay out till 3:00 AM without supervision! And I know that lots of parents like to brag about how "different and mature" their kids are and how they are SO well behaved and able to take care of themselves. What these parents don't seem to grasp is that there are other not-so-well-behaved kids on board that their kids will be hanging with, not to mention the 20 something year old guys that one sees hanging around the pool late at night pouring drinks into the obviously under aged girls!

but, oceansky, I do like the idea of rounding them up and charging the card for childcare. the whole family can be put off at the next port. I agree it is the parents responsibility but what is security for if not to help control unruly children, round them up, charge the parents and if repeated misbehavior occurs put them off the ship

twangster    7 years ago

RC has curfews at 1am and sure enough some folks bitching about it. "I paid for my kids to sail blah blah blah".

mmmcksm    7 years ago

how about a cruise line that does cruises for over 35

olldbob    7 years ago

@oceansky . that dosnt help during the day when they are running riot round pool and corridors

OceanSky    7 years ago

There's a real easy way the cruiselines could all nip a large part of the kid problem in the bud. Start a curfew requiring that at midnight all kids under 18 must either be with their parents, in the teen club or in their cabin. At 12:01 AM, the cruiseline will gather up any unaccompanied kids and deposit them in the little kid's play room, and the parents will be paged to come get them. There will also be a $15.00 per hour babysitting fee tacked on to mom & dad's sign and sail card to cover the expense of having to monitor and babysit the loose kids.

twangster    7 years ago

Security aren't baby sitters taking the place of absentee parents. That's just bad and disrespectful parents.

another review about bad kids are they just abandoned or are their parents just to drunk to care
