Review summary

This was my second time cruising with carnival and the experience was worse than the first time.  The ship itself needs a complete overhaul. It is very old and dated but we were able to get past that. For over 2,000 ppl there's only 1 pool and 3 hot tubs. For the life of me I couldn't understand that. The cruise Director Marcello needs additional training on how to talk to his guest as well as on how to keep the guest engaged. He came across as being rude and on a power trip by telling guests it's his show and he can do what he wants. There needs to be more to do onboard other than bingo, the casino, karaoke  and art auctions. The musical show needs to be revamped because it also lacked engagement. They did have a juggler onboard that was ok. The DJ catered a lot to the Spanish speaking guests which also caused the rest of the guest to be disengaged. It would have been nice to hear current music instead of just 80's and 90's. During port days if you get off to do excursions PLEASE don't expect to come back to decent food because the lunch buffet with the variety is shut down right as ppl are getting back on the boat so you only have a choice of hotdogs, hamburgers pizza and fries EVERY single day which i find to be unfair. They are cutting back on the amount of foid you can get, you have to practically beg for more. I ask for waffles in the morning and they would only give 1/4 of a waffle and they get mad when you ask for more and they will only give you 2 slices of bacon. There wasn't a HUGE variety to choose from for dinner. They are only allowed to clean your room once per day now instead of twice. I reported that my room which was a suite.was extremely hot and was told that it may carnivals standards. We paid entirely too much to have to sweat at night. The staff was friendlier than the cruise Director. The ports were all beautiful except St. Lucia. Again, had it not been for the ports of call we would have been miserable. After cruising with Royal Caribbean several times our standards were set high and Carnival couldn't live up to them.

I'm not understanding- why would you book the Fascination and then compare it to Royal Caribbean? You chose the wrong ship! You should've chosen the Magic or Dream- it's like apples and oranges

seaspray8526405    7 years ago

Yes ,this is one of the old ships but when we sailed on her in Nov 16 ,we had a great cruise - the ports are the main reason for our good review , yes the pool is small but all the ports visited had great beaches .We found lots to eat after returning from excursions , we did keep room for the very good diner in the main dining room . Our stateroom was always kept clean and personnel aboard pleasant .

Did they give you a thimble full of syrup for that waffle, too?

mhogany,, that is awesome,GIG I do the same thing I'm on all kinds of pages and YouTube to get feed back from other cruiser,, September 24th,, 84 days and counting for me,

I will be on the fascination at the end of October beginning of November to celebrate not only my birthday, but my fight with cancer (full remission now). I'm not new to cruising (as I cruise every year for my birthday) but this will be my smallest carnival cruise ship. I agree with so many people who stated doing your research about the ship before or while your booking. Hell I do it before/during/after booking. To anitatuitt, you said it yourself. You've grown accustom to th standards of Royal Caribbean. These are 2 different cruise liners. Each ship in the carnival fleet is different, so why you expected the same treatment as RC baffles me.

I hope you have an awesome cruise crazylady50

Great comments from everyone especially Chrisquo. I got married on Fascination in December last year and we were treated really well by everyone on board. It was my first time cruising but my wife is a pro so she was my guide to everything. I think everyone knows the ship is old - I think it was built in the 90's and it's relatively small. To me, that was nice because I didn't feel too overwhelmed and the experience still felt intimate. A lot of the crew worked there a long time and they seem to know what you need before you even ask. Re: the food, we learnt quick that we preferred the dining rooms. Even if we did excursions, we'd just have enough of a snack when we got back to hold us til dinner when we'd hit the dining rooms. Re: the crowded pool area, we're from Barbados so we don't really do swimming pools much (give me the ocean all day) but maybe try KMKerr8's suggestion and go when the ship is docked and folks are on their excursions. Main thing is that you have options and you can figure out what suits you best and really enjoy everything. Same went for the entertainment. Once I found out they had karaoke, it was on like Donkey Kong. It's Not Unusual!

Pool area was crowded, but I have thought that for all 3 of my past cruises. I can swim anywhere so it wasn't an issue for me. Our first cruise we waited until we ported and took advantage of the nearly empy ship, then we got off and did our afternoon excursions.

We did this in February and loved it. Yes the ship was older but we never had an issue getting a chair. In fact it was never crowded. Great itinerary!

I was on the Fascination in February, no complaints, it was the best vacation so far!

I will be cruising on the Fascination in May of 2018. EXCITED and can hardly wait! Thanks for all the information but it will not deter me and hubby from going in this cruise! I like the itinerary!

als777jo    7 years ago

Sounds like a fake review. Waaay too much negativity. I LOVE the Fascination. First time on a cruise I actually could get a chair lol.

SetexSteve    7 years ago

We cruised Fascination in March. Our first Carnival cruise after around 20 Royal Caribbean cruises. Mainly went for itinerary. Ship is older. We missed the Solarium on RCCL ships. Fascination is an older ship. We had minor disappointments. All in all we weren't horribly disappointed. We've booked 2 more Carnival cruises for next year on Breeze and Dream.

Can't believe how people don't do there research and then complain about the experience. Everything is there online to choose the right vacation

crazylady50    7 years ago

can't wait,, will be sailing on the Fascination In September,, I don't expect it to be like the Carnival Magic research is key,,, 86 days and counting

chrisquo    7 years ago

@coloradokathy, thanks for your feedback. Some people are not meant to cruise. I will be cruising on the Fascination at the end of August and I've researched it. You have to create your own happiness, be positive and enjoy yourself.

We got off this ship 2 weeks ago and we had the opposite experience. We never had a problem getting a chair by the pool (even on sea day), I got so much bacon every morning it actually became a joke with my husband and me, we never felt like we couldn't have more food or had to beg for it. In fact we would order extra appetizers and/or 2 entrees some nights and our plates were quite full every morning for breakfast. We loved the variety of choices in the main dining room for dinner every night. I will admit we never had lunch on the ship because we would eat at the ports so I can't comment on that. We enjoyed the singing shows and the comedians. The staff was amazing! I would do this cruise again in a heartbeat!

Went on this last year mostly for the itinerary best cruise so far

Some of you folks crack me up when you complain "3000 people and one pool"?! What ? Do you not do any research prior to booking a cruise of the ship you're interested in sailing on?? This is like the 4th post today with someone complaining about their ship(RC and Carnival ships) with one pool. Vent over

sopha    7 years ago

If you would have researched your ship prior you'd know the number of pools and hot tubs.
