Review summary

We truly loved Guy's Burgers, the casinos, Caliente, and the Comedy shows. We really wished we could have enjoyed the hot tubs more and to have designated hot tubes for adults only. It baffles me that so many parents leave their children unattended on the ship. We had about 10 young children enter our hot tube that was already full with 6-8 adults that they did not know. To me that is so dangerous, but that is my personal opinion. Hot tubes need to be available past 8:00 pm! Definitely get the drink package, it is so worth it! 4 fruity drinks a day, pretty much will equal your daily drink package cost.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Sadly, food during evening dining wasn't always hot. My favorite dessert has always been the molten chocolate cake; however, this trip it was very disappointing. It was not fully cooked. Several nights it was almost pure liquid, no cake texture at all.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
I was very disappointed that the hot tubes closed at 8:00 pm throughout the ship. It seem as though the children's activities were priority instead of adults. Hot tub was cold so we asked the attendant to check it; the temp was 91 degrees; below body temperature so it was not a hot tube at all and we were cold in the evenings trying to sit in one and relax. Children were allowed in the 18 and up or 21 and up night clubs. I love children; however, this was supposed to be a designated area for adults to drink, have fun, and have adult conversations which proved mute. There is no reason at all that the back deck and Serenity decks should have their hot tubes close at 8:00 pm. On previous cruises these were opened at least until midnight.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
We enjoyed the comedy clubs and the casinos.

Children's Programs

It felt the cruise was more oriented towards the children instead of adults.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Everyone was very friendly and helpful. However, it felt like the ship was short staffed or had several in training and there were several language barriers that made it difficult to get assistance.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship did look like it needed some maintenance and remodeling. Several dents were seen throughout the ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Size was acceptable, shower did not drain our first night and flooded the bathroom. It was reported and repaired right away. However, the A/C did not cool the room sufficiently. It was very warm and miserable at night; I did request a fan and that helped a little. Bed was a bit uncomfortable; I was not aware we could request a topper to make it softer. Disappointed there was only one outlet in the cabin. This made it very difficult to charge cell phones and run the fan at night.

Ship tip

Bring an extension cord to allow you to charge two cell phones at once along with running the fan. A fan in the room is a must!!!

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

This was where we boarded the ship.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

Did not really have many activities to choose from and beaches were not very nice.

Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

We really enjoyed our excursion here! We zip lined, got to see and hold monkeys, birds, and sloths. Our driver was amazing, took us to a couple of shops along the way back. Great day!!!

Cozumel, Mexico

We loved this port!! Went to see the ruins, had tequila and chocolate tasting, lunch, and about an hour to snorkel or enjoy the beach.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
It went very smooth; everyone had a first come first serve sign up for time to disembark the ship. Everything went smooth.

Yes, the hot tubs can be hit or miss. Crazy to not be available z after 8:00. I also agree the lava cake has been inconsistent.

Should read adults only hot tubs on the serenity deck

Thanks for the review. You have a valid concern about children on these ships. Unless you have experienced any of this personally people just tend to believe it won't happen to your children. It can and will. The cruise could be an experience they never forget but not in a good way.JMO

Thanks for sharing your cruise experience with us. Agree on kids being allowed in adult only areas-sad that parents allow it and sad that cruise line doesn't enforce either.

Kids on cruise ships have always been an ongoing problem. I would pay more not to see any.

Unattended kids on carnival ships seems to be a common complaint

I definitely agree with you about the hot tubs. They should have one separate for children and no children should be allowed without their parents.
