Review summary

The water was beautiful everywhere we went. Never saw the ocean so clear or so many beautiful shades of blue water. This was my first cruise and within a week of returning my friend and I have decided on another cruise this December. We have chosen Carnival Magic. I hope we enjoy it has much as The Dream.

Embarkation

With so many people getting on the ship a don't know what they could do to make things go any faster. We drove up to the parking lot at 11 and were on the ship by 1:30

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Buffet food was great. Waited the longest at breakfast but wasn't too long. We had late dining on formal nights. Not many people there. Service and food was excellent. Had our first Guy's Burgers and they're the best.

Onboard Activities

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We enjoyed the entertainment in the Encore theater. The Strings, violin group was great as was Whiskey and Wine but our favorite was Mic Control with the Smokin Brass Band. They were all great and Lex was great with the audience.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Hard working, friendly people. Our room steward was very sweet and did a great job.

Cabin / Stateroom

We had a cove balcony cabin. For our needs it was perfectly located. We weren't far from elevators but didn't have any noise from them. Nice size for two people. Nice closets with lots of storage. Bathroom was nicer than I was expecting. Plenty of room considering you're on a ship. We enjoyed the privacy of the cove balcony and the closeness to the water.

Ship tip

On excursions ask how crowded the buses will be. On two of ours they used all of the pull down center aisle seats so we were really packed in there. At Cozumel we got a taxi for an hour long sightseeing tour. There was 2 of us and it cost $40 We got more and better pics in the shorter time. The taxi was a small car and brand new. Since we were two ladies I picked a lady driver. She was very good at remembering where we wanted to stop. Would do it again for sightseeing instead of crowded bus. Just don't get too far from ship and be back well before time. I'd allow for the unexpected to happen.

Ports of call

New Orleans, Louisiana

We'd been there before. But it's always worth seeing. If you have time and like old homes check out River Road.

Montego Bay, Jamaica

Very pretty landscape with hills and mountains. We took a bus tour with some shopping. Some people got off at beach and were picked up later in the day. Guide and driver were friendly and did a great job. Drawback was over crowded bus using aisle seats.

George Town, Grand Cayman

We took bus excursion to see the sights. Bus was over crowded. Hard to get photos from bus. I would prefer a shorter drive from taxi with more opportunities for pictures. It depends on what you're looking for. Bus had good working A/C

Cozumel, Mexico

The best port if you're into shopping. Long concrete dock that heats up the walk but I over heat easily. After two crowded bus excursions, which we took on our own, not through the cruise, we took a taxi. We paid $40 for an hour sightseeing tour. Enjoyed it much more than the bus tour.

Disembarkation

Considering how many are getting off the ship it went smoothly. Our bags were waiting for us and we didn't wait but a couple of minutes for elevator to our parking spot.

I could sit on the balcony all day and just watch the water. Glad to hear you had su h a good time. So, now you are hooked and will be on many.more cruises. I would take at least 1 a month if I could. Happy cruising.

You mentioned one of my favorite aspects of cruising - the blueness of the ocean, and the various blue hues in ports. Nice!
