Review summary

My favorite part of the cruise was the new Guys Grill and The Blue Iguana they were both awesome additions to the basic cruise menu I was used to. In all the cruise was good but the noticeable cuts Carnival made was a great disappointment this was I believe our 9th or 10 th cruise and by far the pampering of guest has decreased substantially . The biggest disappointment to us as a family who has been cruising since my children were very young was no past cruising social and not even our much expected pins that my children had come to collect over the years and evidently it's a sore subject with many guest because when we asked our room steward she was like " oh my yes the pins I have heard so many complaints about that and apologized on behalf of Carnival " my 18 year old had brought his hat that he had signed by the captain of every cruise with us and all the pins from every cruise and just was totally bummed out to find out this was no longer a tradition he could continue. The chocolate candy on the pillows that Carnival used to brag about also gone as well as not even table cloths on the tables for dinner the little extras that set Carnival aside from the rest to us were gone. Also my sons since they were small regardless of how much money we gave them to play games and buy things were always proud of the deck of cards that they could get themselves at the desk also gone we had to buy them a used deck from the casino to play cards very disappointing. We have a large group of people that always travel with us and I am the one who always sets up our cruises and a few of them gamble quite a bit that is where I find all of the pampering went they received wine at dinner cookies and chocolate covered strawberries if that's the future normal for Carnival then no I will not recommend Carnival. I am looking into booking our future cruise for our gang now and for the first time in over 15 years am looking into other cruise lines. Please don't misunderstand the staff was top notch as usual but the cut backs were noticeable like rooms only being serviced once and no longer turned down while we're at dinner OK rant over

We have enjoyed several cruises on Carnival, some with big groups that we put together. We are not ruling out Carnival, but our next set of cruises and our upcoming group cruises are on Royal Caribbean. We cruised on Carnival Dream and on RCL Freedom of the Seas a few weeks apart from each other so our comparison was current. Carnival is a lot of fun but Royal is also a lot of fun with service and elegance of the ship a step up in my opinion. Also Carnival's penchant for cheap short cruises just does not fit our preference for cruising. So if you're looking for a new Cruise Line consider their loyalty program along with the ratings and variety of their ships and itineraries and where else your loyalty credits count. An additional attractive thing for us about RCL is that their loyalty points count on Celebrity and there are a few exotic Cruise locations such as the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean that Celebrity serves very well. You might also consider trying Holland because your Carnival loyalty credits may give you discounts on Holland; you just have to consider if Holland with all its elegance will leave you missing the fun that is still a strength of Carnival.

I was on the Dream a month. We were asked if we wanted once or twice or both cabin service and we chose both. So we had morning and evening turndown. Also we got a new deck of cards free at the service desk. I don't understand people saying the opposite of what actually happens!!!

We were on the Dream last month for 2 weeks. We haven't received a gold pins on our last 3 sailing and when we inquired at Guest Services they said they hadn't received any gold pins for awhile but gave us a silver one with the year on it. Also gave us a deck of cards. So maybe they just ran out of pins and cards for your sailing.

Yes Royal and Norwegian may have a few more perks, but all in all for the money difference you pay, it's not worth it. On Carnival I can spend my money on other things. Staff and food very comparable to the other cruise lines. I've been on Royal and Costa as well as three Carnival. I like Carnival the best! Happy Sailing

Just went on NCL for the first time and though I love Carnival, I must say it was amazing! It was the NCL Escape. The food was sooo much better than Carnival. I will still cruise Carnival but only if it's a great deal compared to NCL.

I just cruised in March on the Dream and we had room service every day. We also had table cloths each night at dinner. I hope things have not changed that much since I have 3 cruiser booked already starting in January 2018.

You're given the choice of once or twice daily service for the room.

Norwegion and Princess do a good job. Try them.

Sounds like way too many changes happening too fast. Sorry. Hope you find something to your liking.

We were just on the Dream 3 weeks ago. Our steward gave us the option of once or twice a day room servicing. The chocolate and tablecloths went away several years ago and I just read last week on John Healds blog that the pins were on back order from the manufacturer. Our only complaint was that dinner lasted no less than a hour and 45 minutes every single night.

What a shame. Even though the fares don't drop we suffer cut backs. I'd pay a bit more to have a great experience 😎
