Review summary

My birthday cruise was my first on the Carnival line. My vacation was made special by the staff in the Chef's Art Steakhouse where I ate several times and at the Alchemy Bar. The downside to the ship is the cigarette smoke everywhere. There is no set location or rules for smokers to follow so it is nearly impossible to escape. You also must pass through the casino on that deck, there is no getting around it. There are minimal onboard activities aside from poolside adult games and childrens activities in the main lobby. The ship is designed and decorated much like a casino so it is a dark and loud music filled atmosphere. To find natural light one must access the highest decks of the ship and still be subjected to the smokers. The pixel program is difficult to navigate and find where your actual pictures are day to day. The air conditioning is intermittent in the interior rooms throughout the night which can feel very stuffy and hot. The front desk informed me that all of the personal fans were checked out on day one, there are clearly not enough available. The food was mediocre at best in the main dining areas but the crew made up for that with very good service. No memorable shows to speak of and not many appearances from the Flying Scotsman( Cruise Director). I found it quite boring but the casino was constantly crowded and people seemed to be enjoying that. The arcade was nice and the DJ was friendly at the Caliente Club. The Bonsai Sushi was great.

The air conditioner is spotty throughout the night. Had to open the door for a while around 3am nightly. The front desk was out of fans to be checked out.

Ship tip

Invest in the thermal suite week pass, the Cloud 9 Spa is a wonderful way to fill up time during sea days.

Sounds like you were on some other ship than the Dream. The smokers are highly restricted on this ship and casino is only inside area where smoking is allowed, smoking allowed outside on aft starboard portion of Deck and limited to an area on deck above Lido aft on starboard side. Ventilation on Dream is some of the best around. Not sure where you were but we've cruised multiple times on Dream and always found plenty to do, had great food and good entertainment.

I have been on the Dream 3 times and had a great time all 3 times. Relax and have fun.

Sounds like you are very hard to please... Chris, Cruise Director is everywhere on the ship and is probably one of the best CD's in the business. Bring your own personal fan. Once again, a cruise is what you make of it. Start out with a positive attitude and you will have a blast!!!!!
