Review summary
I was on the Carnival Dream sailing out of New Orleans. Let me start off by saying that boarding the ship was not a dream at all. They claim that it was too windy that day to use the gangway, so everyone would have to board by zones and through deck 0 of the ship. There was a NCL ship behind ours and they were boarding their ship using a gangway even though it was windy.
If you were unfortunate enough to purchase the faster to the fun pass, then it was a waste of money. I signed up on the internet to board the ship between 11:30am-12pm. I did not get on the ship until after 2:45. Everyone had to sit in the lobby and wait for their zones to be called, just like in the airport.
Since I expected to be on the ship by 12, by the time I actually did get on I was very hungry. I had a small breakfast and had been anticipating eating lunch early on the ship. I made reservations months in advance to go to the steakhouse at 5:30pm but I could not wait to eat, so I ate at Guys Burgers (best burgers ever!).
The safety drill took place late due to passengers having to board the ship late and we sailed out of New Orleans later than expected.
I went to the steakhouse at 5:30pm and either I was still too full from lunch or the steak was just not good. My husband didn't even enjoy his steak. He ordered his medium rare and it was more like well done. The waitstaff were friendly but the food was no good.
On to food.....besides Guys Burgers and the BBQ joint, all the food on the ship was bland and not very good at all. Don't expect amazing food.
There was plenty of seating on the decks and in the restaurants. I have been on Carnival Cruises where it is hard to find a table and the buffet lines are ridiculously long, but not on this ship.
The comedians were hilarious. Loved the 80s show. Did not like Chris the flying Scotsman nor did I care for the guy at Bingo who kept talking about animal noises the entire time.
Bingo go has changed as well. Now instead of automatically winning the top prizes when you call BINGO, they want you to do things like play bean bag toss or flip the right letter in order to get the top prize.
There were not enough activities on the ship and when there were activities, they seemed to all be at the same time.
Now for the thalodsopool. There is no sea salt in it. It's just a big huge whirlpool in the spa with "private members". Very few people are in there at one time
i had a cove balcony which was very nice and it was great being so close to the water and hearing the waves.

Thanks for the thoughtful review. Embarkation is important and if the cruise ship screws it up it can taint the whole cruise experience. And don't listen to Carnival cheer leaders who pretend the ship has no control over embarkation and "it's all the port authority's fault." Baloney. The ship pays a fortune for port support - and money talks.
