Carnival Dream Cruise Reviews - Q&A

4.1
We’re headed to Galveston at the end of July on a Saturday morning to board the Dream. We haven’t been there in 10 years. Coming in the night before doesn’t work for us. Does anyone have any information and tips about the ferry coming into Galveston? Wait times? Best time to catch it? Is it easier to drop off luggage and then park? We’re coming in from Louisiana and don’t want to go near Houston or deal with 45.

The back way to Bolivar Peninsula ferry will add two hours to the trip. Did it last week and waited in the ferry line for an hour and this was on a Wednesday so add longer for a weekend. i10 to 45 south is the best route. Make a parking reservation at lighthouse parking and they will take you and your luggage to the terminal . Come on in to Galveston on 87 (45) turn left on 29th. To lighthouse. Have a blast…

On a Saturday you really shouldn’t have any trouble getting around/through Houston. If you just come in to the loop on the East side of town (Beltway 8/Sam Houston toll), south to 45 — you’re already south of Houston. 45 through Webster, league city isn’t terrible. No idea about the ferry, sorry.

The Galveston ferry has a Twitter page. Wait times are updated several times a day. No app or account necessary.

If you have the time (2 hrs+) the back way is a more relaxing and scenic drive. Ferry website: https://www.txdot.gov/driver/travel/ferry-schedules.html

There is a lot of construction on Hwy 146 around Kemah that can stack up before Nasa Rd 1 heading South, that you should be mindful of.

we are coming from that direction and always go down Hwy 146 at Mt Belvieu (before Baytown). It will run into I45 right at Galveston. We do this everytime. Head down Broadway (it is what 45 turns into once on the island). Depending on where you are parking will determine which street you head down to the port on. Usually 23rd to 25th Street or even Kempner are good choices. If you want to ride the ferry, do it on your way home, if you have the time.

that ferry route is definitely more interesting but I don't think it would be any quicker, even if you're coming from the East. I can bet you're probably going to say "this traffic hasnt improved any in the past 10 years"

No info on the ferry but if we are traveling with others, I will drop everyone and luggage off at terminal, then go park at Lighthouse parking. Then just ride the shuttle back to port. EZ PZ. If it just my wife and I, we will usually park first and ride over on shuttle with luggage. Either way is no problem.
