Review summary

We cruised on Carnival Destiny out of San Juan PR to the Southern Caribbean. We chose this cruise because of the many different ports and we loved visiting each one. St Lucia and Dominica were absolutely beautiful, we loved the Barbados wildlife preserve and snorkeling on Antigua. Some of the shore excursions were thu the ship and and some independent. Our cabin stewards and waitstaff were excellent. The room was OK but not as nice as other cruise ship rooms we have had . I thought the food in the dining room was quite good, however the breakfast buffet ranged from just OK to really awful -- we only went there a couple of times and then ate in the dining room. The ship atmosphere was OK but a little gaudy for my taste and the smell of smoke permeated too many rooms.

the dining room food was good to excellent. I prefer the Norwegian Cruise line free style dining approach to the assigned seating. The little chinese restaurant was good. Loved the room service for early coffee.

Entertainment

Most cruise ship activities do not appeal to us. The jazz band was good and we heard several good piano players and other musicians. Wish they would have some more low key "educational" things - cooking demos, more exercise classes, real info (not shopping) on the islands we visit.

Service and Staff

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room steward went out of his way to find me band-aids one evening after I had scraped my knee in a fall on the island.

I'm only saying average instead of good because of 2 things - smoke smell and some unpleasant smells near the outdoor buffet area

very clean - beds were extremely comfortable - the decor was a bit tired but we didn't spend a lot of time in the room so that was trivial.

This was a beautiful island - very undeveloped. We went to and "adventure center" and went swimming in a natural pool and hiked to a waterfall. Would have liked the hike to be a bit more strenous.

very pretty island - we went on Glory Tours and went to the Wildlife Center , Orchid place, and a few other sites. The wildlife center was cool - all the animals roam free so you might meet a peacock or giant turtle coming up the path you are on.
