Agreed. The same thing happen to my parents they did not have insurance and carnival applied their fee towards their next cruise. Call they will work with you!!

No thats not how it works if you had insurance and was unable to go for a medical reason just get a doctors certificate and fill out the paperwork we got ours back after 5 days no problems . All cruise companies airlines etc are the same if you don’t read your policy or have adequate insurance its your problem not the cruise company’s 🤷‍♀️

If only there was a app where you could ask questions about cruising and get all the information you need to prevent such problems

If what I am thinking is correct he may have been making payments and forgot to make a few and missed out. Insurance would not cover that. He may have been waiting for a call or notification to pay. If that is the case he is gonna get left behind a lot… I don't think any of them send out payment due notification. If this is the case.

That’s not Carnival’s fault that you didn’t get to go. And if you didn’t get most of your money back you didn’t get the right insurance either!
