Review summary

This was a great introduction to cruising for my (college age) kids and a great reminder for my wife and I of how much fun they can be. We went on excursions at every port and enjoyed almost everything. The only downside was down time on the sea day, since we are the type who want to stay busy on a vacation.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Fine.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Main dining room was very good and we had excellent meals every time we ate there. Guy's hamburger place was so good we ate there multiple times. The buffets were... buffets.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
The main activities we did on the ship were trivia contests, ping pong, and mini golf. I would have liked to see more activities, but playing ping pong on the deck of a moving ship was very entertaining.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The shows were outstanding -- especially Epic Rock -- and the comedians were great.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The room stewards were great, and most of the other staff was as well. Oddly, the service from the waiters at our assigned dining time was probably the worst service we had all cruise, but we only ate at our assigned time twice, and the other dining room staff was outstanding.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Design and layout seemed fine, and everything was clean. Floors in some areas were slippery pretty much all the time, but I'm not sure what they can do about it.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Cabin was fine. We knew going in it would be small, but it's not like we spent much time there. Only "complaint" is that there's only one plug, and it's not near the bed -- which caused difficulty when I needed to use a heating pad. In today's world of electronic devices, people should bring their own splitters.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

4 out of 5
Went to the Everglades before the cruise. It was OK.

Nassau, Bahamas

5 out of 5
Spent the day at Atlantis resort in the waterslides and dolphin area. Got a better price from ShoreExcursionsGroup.com than on Carnival.

Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (Private Island)

4 out of 5
The people running this private island could have been a bit more helpful. And don't plan much time to shop at the straw market -- it's like four little shops. We thought it was more and ended up with a lot of extra time on our hands in between excursions.

Grand Turk Island

4 out of 5
All of the Carnival excursions looked like they were too big-group-oriented. We found Mama Dea's Taxi tours online just by searching for things to do on Grand Turk and got a private tour that was much better.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
We disembarked without any problems.

Stay busy is OK, but relaxing at sea is a very by positive about cruising.
