Review summary
This was my first and last time cruising with Carnival Cruise lines. I usually cruise with Royal Caribbean and because of price and recommendations I decided to give Carnival a try. Boy was I wrong, you can clearly see the difference between the two. In all fairness, I will break up this review in two parts. The good and the bad. First off this cruise ship is very dated looking, rusty in places, and looks dirty. They advertise a complete remodel in 2013 which I didn't see. Secondly, the food was horrible. The dinner in the dining room tasted like lower quality meats and the buffet was the worst I have ever eaten. The people who ate in the buffet were rude, piled up their plates high with food, left most of it on tables, and went on their way. You will often see people with plates of food in the elevator going to their room. Third, for a large ship, there were not a lot of common areas, and the ones they had were blaring with loud music and were over crowded at all times. Fourth, the shows were not very good. The singing was loud, overdone and out of tune. Fifth, the itinerary for the days at see were not very interesting, they always ran over so you couldn't go to the next one, and they were all designed for you to spend money and by something at the end. Now for the good. The staff and service were amazing. They were very personable, go out of your way to give you what you want, and address you by name. The hamburger place, burirto bar, and the expensive restaurant were delicious. It's a shame because the people and service were amazing and to fall short on quality. I will be sticking with Royal Caribbean.

Ship tip
Due to a hurricane Carnival cancelled the Grand Turk Port due to safety issues. Which was fine. However, they only refunded us $15.19 for the taxes and port charges for this port. They also did not offer any credit towards a future cruise. I called to complain and all they said was We are sorry.

Well after reading everyones comments, the OP has certainly offended many readers. I hope they come back, re-think the title and change it. Maybe the OP didn't re-read their post and realize what they wrote might have offended others. Who knows. I agree with all comments. The title should be changed. Alot has been said, all I want to add is there were some noticeable cost cuts in certain areas. For instance, I noticed a difference in the amateur performances, the singing out of toon, but it was quite funny listening to them, and we were too relaxed to take anything too seriously, you can't when traveling. When something seemed off, we just found something else to do. There were so many good and bad distractions on this ship, but it's up to the traveler and how they wish to respond. Life throws you lemons, make some lemonade!

I think the working definition of the OP of "Lower Class" are the actions of the passenger, regardless of income (self absorbed, loud, obnoxious, oblivious to others).
This has nothing to do with income, bargain hunting, or other passengers.
Due to the extreme bargain (compared to other lines) of Carnival, and it's reputation as a "Party Boat", and its relaxed enforcement of many "traditional" rules, it tends to attract more of the "low class" people than the other lines (in addition to "higher class" bargain hunters and "higher class" lower income folk).
Of course, it would be nice if the OP would return to validate or refute my argument.

Ewood, Bargain is in the eyes of the beholder. To me, a bargain is can I book the cruise, flight, hotel, etc for less that what an all inclusive would be. If so, to me, that is a bargain. To others, they would have their own definition. I think this is being examined from a cost perspective between Carnival and other cruise lines but at the end of the day, it is a persons perspective towards the clientelle and how they behave.
I have been to very posh events where people acted like idiots, but I never would use the term low class. The original author here should have simply chosen his words a little more carefully.

I am a little fascinated about the tales of bargain hunters on cruises and what is classed as a low price by different cruise companies. We only started cruising 3 years ago when we combined an all inclusive hotel in Jamaica for 6 nights with a weeks cruise on Norwegian Pearl. We "pushed the boat out" somewhat for this holiday and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Now restricted to only week cruises because of our dogs, we consider a price of around £800 pp for a balcony to be reasonable. How does this fit into your opinion of "bargain hunters" or low class personnel?

My husband is a retired Dentist. I am a retired teacher. We are certainly not low class. We are on Platinum level with Carnival. We know value when we see it. We sail on all the major cruise lines. We choose our cruise by itinerary and value not by the type of passenger that typically sails on that cruiseline. Many times that means we cruise on Carnival, other times, Princess, Celebrity, HAL, RCCL, NCL or MSC. I would rather travel with hard working passengers than people who put on airs. You can meet both types on all the cruiselines. A cruise is what you make of it. Rarely do cruises go perfectly. How you react to something not going right can make or break your cruise. Assuming that the staff can fix what is wrong and approaching them wth a smile and a positive attitude can almost guarantee a good outcome. If not, take a different cruiseline. There are enough ones out there. I sincerely hope that you find one that fits your needs.

There are rude people on many ships. Carnival is no exception. Keep in mind too, they advertise as being a party ship. They get many spring break cruisers because of their low prices. Well, if you're going to attract drinkers, you are going to get drunks. We are also in the midst of the entitled generations. People who feel they have everything and anything coming to them. They expect to be given respect, but don't relalize it has to be earned. Thus, they don't respect others. Ships are getting larger, can carry more passengers, and a more diverse crowd. There are only so many deck chairs to go around.

LOL BdRebel, you are correct, he definitely got people's attention. I have had similar experiences with rudeness and not sure what part of the world your from, but I certainly have witnessed it from all cultures, and walks of life.
I will add this, there is not one soul out there, regardless of social graces or lack there of, or social position or wealth that will ruin my vacation that is for sure! To each their own and if they want to be miserable, let them be. I am there to relax and blow off a years worth of steam!

Askeegan -
I will agree that your vacation is what you make of it. I did enjoy (for the most part) my time on Carnival. I am able to get along with anybody, however it does take effort not to blow up at some of the rudeness displayed by some of the passengers. (BTW, one that comes to mind was the lady behind me in the Customer Service line. She was obviously well-to-do income wise, was a frequent cruiser, etc. She was also what I would argue as one of the low-class types we are talking about. The line was stretching across a walkway. Rather than allowing people to pass in front of her, she acted highly offended and let the other passengers know, without doubt, that the line started "back there" and they need to walk around the back of the line rather than through it.)
I have also noted lower income people who are ladies and gentlemen.
Again, I do not believe that the OP was referring to income or social status, but rather their behavior. (And yes, I do believe the headline was poorly chosen, but it was effective -- many have come to the review.

BdRebel, I have to agree with your statement that a large portion of the passengers are self absorbed, but are we not all at some point, and when you are on vacation, that is an excuse to let you hair down?
Sadly, class is defined by income/society status and there is no convincing anyone of that, especially in this day and age. I have seen people that look like they come out of the back woods that act like complete fools, but yet have way more money than I.
My point on this was that the original comment paints everyone with the same brush and I, for one, find it rather rude and disrespectful.
At the end of the day, if he or you or anyone is not content with the cruise line, its clientele, or anything about Carnival, perhaps they should go elsewhere.
Myself, I can get along with anyone and all types of personalities. Like I said in my previous comments, "Your Vacation, is what you make it". If you allow others to ruin your time, the only one that loses is you.
Life is too short, don't sweat the small stuff!

Let's shoot the messenger!
I have sailed Carnival in the past, and I agree with the idea that the OP attempted to make.
The average passenger on a Carnival cruise behaves in a lower class way.
This is not to say that all passengers are like this -- many "upper class" passengers find the value in Carnival's product.
Basically, I believe that the definition between Low Class and Upper Class has nothing to do with money, but with behavior. Many of the passengers (again, not nearly all, but more than half) on my last C cruise were rude, obnoxious and self-absorbed. Much different than my last Princess cruise where most passengers acted like ladies and gentlemen (including the children!).
Do I condemn the OP for his choice of words? No, I will not.
Will I sail C in the future? Probably, but with the knowledge that a large share of the passenger base has no manners.
Am I likely to look for other lines that may give me what I expect? Very likely.
Thanks, OP, for your honest review.

I have gone on Carnival and had a great time, guess that makes me low class? Or do I balance out because I also go on celebrity ? I would rather be low class and enjoy life then high class sitting on a broom stick complaining about every little thing. I joke and call Carnival the floating Walmart, but like Walmart, somethings are done best at Carnival.
When I book a cruise I know the age of the ship and the ship decor before I book it. I have had a good time on everything from 3 night Carnival inside cabin up to mini suite on HAL and 14 night Transatlantic on Celebrity with extended balcony cabin.
Life is what you make out of it, roll with the punches of the bad and enjoy every little bit of good that you can find. Don't insult people.
Couldn't have said it better!

For someone calling people "low class", you sure don't show your class by your spelling ability. That was pretty rude to say that people sailing Carnival are below you. Just reading that title did not make me want to consider anything you had to say, which made your post pointless, in my opinion.

Lol well I am from Canada and work hard for what I have. According to society I am considered middle class/income. I am just a smart shopper as I still get to see mew places for a cheaper cost. Call me frigid but I call it smart shopping.. I enjoy Carnival and have no beef with them

Perhaps you should reword your title line. It is rather rude! I am sure that Royal Caribbean will be happy to take your money. If you did not have a good vacation, that is because you wanted to find something wrong with it! Vacation is meant to be just that. Perhaps next time, relax and just enjoy instead of nit picking! Life is what you make it!
