Review summary

This is probably the worst travel related let down I have ever experienced. After hearing so many great, fun stories about going on cruises, the amazing food, and the entertainment this adventure was a big disappointment. I felt like I was a captive audience for every money grabbing gimmick the cruise line could come up with. Days were planned out on the ship but much of what was on the schedule was designed to sell to passenger more, which is not entertainment. Too many kids under the age of 10 on the cruise, 1500 kids as reported by the cruise director. Kids running up and down the halls yelling and stomping around until early morning. The food was geared for the kids with basic burgers, pizza and cafeteria food with only pizza being available all the time. Customer service required standing in lines for 30-45 minutes, which occurred numerous times a day. This is not the way I had envisioned spending time on a cruise. Overall I would rate this cruise very poor bordering on terrible although the staff on the ship was great, great attitudes and VERY friendly. This was my first and last cruise.

Didn't get to go which was the main reason for taking this cruise. Many passengers were unhappy with the decision to drop this port instead of Costa Maya.

Perhaps a different cruise line would be better for you. Carnival is more fun and family oriented. There are other lines. Hopefully you will try again.

Well you did go on a carnival cruise so expect a lot of kids and expect burgers fries and pizza. You don't go on a kid cruise for the most elegant dining in the world. You want that,go on holland or celebrity.

That is definitely what the Cruise lines do! They are constantly selling stuff, but you just have to pass over that crap & enjoy the rest!

Right! If my dad heard about it, I was to go cut my own switch.

There is no way that you can control someone else's children.  Bad parenting is prevalent throughout society now a days because children have too many damn rights!

In the 50's-60' as a kid I was afraid of my parents. Today, parents are afraid if they punish their kids, the government will punish them.

Right! We've come a society of not being responsible for the way our kids behave and letting someone else take the blame for it. GOSH!!! I'm on my vacation and don't want my kids to disturb me!

It is sad to read when someone readily gives up on cruising based upon kids running around or companies upselling.  It appears that you were looking to be entertained 24X7.  Good luck finding that on any vacay.  There are lots of things to do that will not cost you extra $$ and clearly you are a tough person to please.  Odd that they skipped Belize, as it is a tender port but obviously the captain had a very good reason out of respect for the passengers safety.  Perhaps some research in the future would save you this frustration.

So sorry that you were disappointed in your cruise.  I sailed transatlantic on the Breeze & I loved my experience. It was quite awhile ago, though.  I hope that you decide to give cruising another chance.  When you feel ready, try booking on Holland America, Princess or Celebrity.  They are less geared to young families and have good food and fine service. Also timing your cruise when most kids are in school should help the situation.  You have to expect many kids sailing on a cruise departing December 26.   I hope that should you take a cruise in the future that your experience will be much better.

Unfortunate you feel this way about cruising but before you go, I'd like to point out a couple of things. Do a little math. How much would the same type land vacation cost you? THEN, add in the air, food and entertainment for your family. There were a lot of kids on a Carnival cruise? During a time when school was out of session? Say it isn't so! I'm sure the main dining room offered more than food "geared towards kids". And what's wrong with burgers and pizza for adults? What was the "decision" to skip Belize? I'm sure it's not because the Captain just changed his mind! I can almost guess that it was weather or sea related. Since Belize is a "tender" port, well, there ya' go! NO vacation is perfect...sea or land! Best of luck on your next vacation endeavor. Hope they throw the world at you as you seem to expect......
