I booked this itinerary 2 years ago due to the limited sailings to Greenland. This was my second sailing with Princess but my 45th cruise. Not impressed with Princess, or maybe it is just this older ship. I do agree the beds are the most comfortable I have experienced.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
It was crowded and long lines but it seemed to move along okay.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
2 out of 5
I only ate in the buffet because I tend to eat too much in the MDR. The layout of the buffet to way too tight for the number of guests on this ship. Many times only one side of the buffet was open which created a seating problem. I brought my food to my stateroom due to lack of seating. The buffet food was the worst I have experienced in 45 cruises. Food was lukewarm (when it should have been hot), tasteless, limited selection, and generally was unappetizing. I didn't have a drink package so I only drank what was complimentary.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Most activities were the normal ones that you will find on most ships, Princess has some unique games that were a nice alternative.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
The performers and special entertainers were good. I do not like singers who are screaming out a song where you cannot understand the lyrics.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
I always had good service anywhere on the ship.
Ship Quality
2 out of 5
The design of the ship was somewhat ease to navigate but the maintenance needs to be addressed. The hull needs painting (so much rust), cracked tiles in several areas, decor is drab and dated.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Room was comfortable and roomy for one person. Lots of storage options. Shower is the smallest I have ever experienced and I am of average size.
Ship tip
Be aware that this is a older ship. I'm made aware that there was a refurbishment in 2019 but it needs more.
Always a wonderful port with a great boardwalk. A sailing ship from Columbian Naval Academy named Gloria was at the port with us. Beautiful ship and free to board for a tour. I toured the Alexander Keith's Brewery.
Another small town with not much to offer as far as shopping. It rained the whole day. The tender process was very slow with long lines to get back to the ship (in the rain, no canopy).
Long wait times in the lounges on board. Long wait lines for customs and immigration. Long wait for transfer buses to leave for airports. Many people missed flights. Our bus driver couldn't find the terminal and circled around. I boarded the transfer at 9:45 am (after a 1.75 hour wait on the ship) and eventually ran to my gate at EWR at 1:25 pm. Never again will I sail out of Brooklyn.
What a coincidence, last year I sailed the Caribbean Princess right before back-to-back Radiance of the Seas. My experience was opposite though. The Princess food was pretty good while RC wasn’t very good. For me to stop eating a desert because it was so bad says a lot. But food is subjective. The buffet on Princess ships often close on one side of the ship in order to prepare for the next meal but the buffet stays open all day rather than close for hours between meals like on other lines. However you can always find seating on the closed side.
