Had an amazing time, although found P & O trips far too expensive you can do same trips for at least half the money by using port taxis and mini buses

I agree independent is cheaper - but a traffic jam in Italy or a breakdown in the Balkans and the ship will leave without you. A ship excursion does give the assurance that they won’t leave without you! Pay more for security, pay less for longer, but with some risk.

Independent excursions are usually cheaper, less crowded and last longer than ship excursions on most cruise lines. Just do a little research and pick an excursion and company that gets good ratings, and that will have you back to the ship at least an hour before you’re all aboard time, and you should not have any issues.

I agree about P&O excursion prices. It seems to me that P&O provide excursions purely as a money making exercise rather than a service for its guests. The locals who are providing similar excursions at a fraction of the prices are still making profits.
