Review summary

the ship, while it was beautiful, it was cut in half. the lift took you to deck 5 but you needed to be on 7 to walk along the ship to get to the top levels. the food was beautiful, the chefs do an amazing job and the waiters are faultless. our cabin steward was very good he was polite and efficient. the cabin was always immacculate. the tipping was annoying, it was too expensive and you can never tell who gets the money, we opted out of the gratuity and decidede to tip who we wanted too.

I have to agree with what Oceanwaver has said. On our first cruise I waived the gratuities and personally tipped the people who helped make our holiday great. But after, I regretted that, because the experience is made great by so many people that you just don’t see - cleaners, kitchen staff, cooks, etc. They deserve the tips just as much. So I left the gratuities in place on the second cruise, and will do for the upcoming Christmas one.

Well, there has an announcement come through from P & O that from May 2019 gratuities are being scrapped.

At least next year we won't have the massive queue of cruisers asking for the tip to be removed. Their loss as I'm sure the original cruise price will go up to compensate (already noticed big rises) so they probably won't be cruising next year.👍

Tipping charges are clearly stated when you booked so why opt out?

Tips go to ppl who you never get to tip the behind the sceanes crew. Mainly kitchen staff cleaners ect. Yes we all tip our cabin steward , waiters and odd bar staff. Shame ppl can be so tight

Go to the reception when you get on board and ask for the removal of gratuities form

Fear not - P&O are removing automatic gratuities from next year. https://www.travelmole.com/news_feature.php?news_id=2033677&c=setreg®ion=2
