Review summary

There's no area for comments about the Monte Carlo Port stop. This was a disappointment for us as P&O had mixed up our excurison tickets, and issued two of our party on a different trip. We didn't notice till the day and they couldnt swap it for us. In fact they were rude, said we should have checked. This made it difficult for our party of 6, as two are disabled and needed assistance. We had to split up. Loved Nice though and the guide was excellent.

Embarkation

Embarkation was appalling. The computer system broke down, there were too many people waiting to embark so not enough seating ... we waited nearly two hours to embark after our time slot.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The food and service in the Peninsular restaurant was exemplary. Really enjoyed the Glass House too. The waiters couldn't do enough for you. My only complaint would be not enough wine waiters... sometimes the starters arrived before a waiter had even taken our drinks order.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Fantastic gym and Spa. Did wine tasting which was very entertaining. All the quizzes were great fun.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Went to most of the stage shows in the theatre.. which were amazing, as good as any west end show. Also all the acts in the other venues were brilliant, Tribute acts to Freddie Mercury - he was fantastic - saw him twice, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Amy Winehouse. Love the duo in the Planet Bar. And my fave had to be the band that mostly played in Malabar and did most of the sailaway parties, Accent. What a lovely lady, that really got everyone involved.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All the service received from everyone on board was second to none.

Cabin / Stateroom

Really great cabin on C deck with huge balcony. We were looked after amazingly well and nothing was too much trouble.

Ports of call

Southampton (London), England

Gibraltar (U.K.)

Hated Gibraltar. May as well have stayed in Britain... all the same shops on the high street and restuarants serving burgers and fish and chips.

Alghero, Sardinia - Italy

5 out of 5
Beautiful little place, winding streets and great shopping. Ate at one of the harbourside restaurants with a view to die for. Didnt do an excurison, didn't need to. Easy to wander around on your own. It was a tender to the mainland, and unfortunately my down syndrome brother couldnt stride the test they give you without assistance, so they wouldnt let him go. So I was the only one who made it here!

Florence/Pisa

5 out of 5
Did a fabulous excurison. Horse drawn carriage ride around a vineyard then wine tasting. Well worth it. And made the right decision not to go to Pisa or Florence in July!!

Barcelona, Spain

5 out of 5
Love Barcelona. Been many times. Be aware how far out the cruise ships are from town. You definitely need to get a cab or do an excurison. We booked a cab for six of us to take us into town.

Cartagena, Spain

Loved it! No excurison booked. You can walk right off the ship and you're in town. Great shopping, great eating (try the Tapas Bar on the left hand side of the main street).

Disembarkation

1 out of 5
We were allocated a time slot and arranged to meet our friends in the venue at the time stated - as we had a car booked to take us all home. However, as we finished breakfast early we decided to relax but were ushered into our disembarking venue an hour early. They then announced that everyone could get off. No time slots to stick to. We missed our friends as they didn't want us to wait on board. We were ushered in the baggage collection area, which was a nightmare. Bags were supposed to be placed in the relevant sections, but some were missing or under the wrong letter. There was then a massive queue to exit through customs. It was an absolute shambles. Many people complained and said never ever again would they travel with P&O for this reason. Such a shame that the holiday ended this way.
