Azamara have long been our favourite cruiseline. Others such as Oceania get close but don't quite give you the friendly nature of Azamara. The only shame I have is that they only have the two ships, although they move them nicely around the World so if you keep looking they will get to were you want to go at sometime. I have used several other cruiselines but would always us Azamara if they were going where I wanted to go.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
One of the better things about Azamara are the locations they get to and this includes embarkation. Instead of the tricky main port area we were at San Basilio, which you can get to by land taxi (car), water bus - the Number 2 waterbus stops nearby. Water taxis are also available. Its either a short walk from check in to the ship or they also run a free shuttle whilst the ships in port.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
It's always been good but a couple of months ago they extended the breakfast menu and there are now some fabulous things added, including a chef every morning, finely slicing fresh fruit, just lovely. The speciality restaurants are also fab and worth a visit on a longer cruise. Chefs Table is well worth a try, they have added a fourth Chefs Table which is mainly seafood and called stateside. Italian, French and Californian are the others.
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
I'm glad to say there are no rock climbing walls, this is a nice smaller sized ship which is mainly adults. The fitness centre is well equipped, there are plenty of traditional activities which you can get into, if you so wish.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
Great shows and guest entertainers. Cruise Directors are stars in their own rights.
Children's Programs
They may do something for children but I've not taken children on this ship
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
This is where the scale needs 6 or 7 stars. Its the service and staff that make this ship and its sister ship the Journey. Just exceptional.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
The ship still looks very fresh from last years refresh. Ships layout is simple and easy to find your way around.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
The cabin is bright and cheerful, nicely appointed with top quality bedding and a really comfortable bed. New flat screen TVs were installed last year and the on board TV and wifi all work well (for ship systems).
From beginning to end the room was kept clean at all times.
Ship tip
If you fancy getting into a speciality restaurant try to do so soon after getting on the ship as they are popular. Always go to the Azamazing Evening, everyone I've been on has been fabulous.
I did an all day culinary tour, with the ship Head Chef. we toured the market near Rialto Bridge, bought all the produce for a meal, the chef then went back to the ship with us, we had a light lunch and then did wine tasting all afternoon, before heading back to the ship and the evening meal, prepared by the Chef from the produce purchased in Venice.... one of the best tours I've every done.
I did an excursion but the thing I want to write about was the Azamazing evening held in Tito Square, which was closed just for us. The choir were just incredible.
