Review summary

Great first cruise as a family of three. Ship, crew and ports met our expectations. Nothing mind blowing as I am used to cruising but I am absolutely not disappointed in any way! Will definitely cruise with Royal Caribbean again.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Southampton is a small terminal but we arrive 10min early and went through without any issues or queues. I would still recommend to show up at your appointment time

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
We only ate at the buffet, as it was more practical for our toddler. The food was good and hot most of the time. Maybe a lack of choices for deserts during dinner time/lunch time.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Again, not a great judge as we didn’t part take in many activities, especially not adult only ones. The trivia’s onboard were good but you had to get to some venues at least 45min before to get a seat.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
As always with Royal, the entertainment was brilliant. The main broadway production show was high quality, the original show “The Gift” was also really good. Spectra’s cabaret on the other hand was not my favorite but I did appreciate the artists and performers who did a wonderful job. I would have liked the musical show to have a booking system as I had to wait in line for an hour to get in the theater to make sure I had a seat.

Children's Programs

5 out of 5
Our 19 months old attended the Nursery “Royal Babies and Tots” program. The extra charge was worth it. Make sure to register your child on embarkation day as we found out some parents missed out as all the spots were filled. Our son loved going everyday and the free play area next to it was well equipped to entertain most babies and toddlers.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
The restaurant staff were amazing, making sure our son was having the best time everytime we arrived for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Helping us if we needed anything, nothing seemed too much for them even when they were very busy. The only “meh” service we got was the room steward wasn’t really efficient, and we only got two towel animals during the entire week. I know it’s a silly thing to complain about but I was looking forward to seeing my child’s reaction to them.

Ship tip

If there’s something you want to watch, do or part take in, go early, book early, be patient. It’s all worth it but it might mean getting to venues earlier and waiting.

Ports of call

Haugesund

3 out of 5
City center and the Viking monument are not a far walk from the port but otherwise there isn’t much there.

Olden, Norway

5 out of 5
Also a beautiful Fjord, we walked around and explored but I’m sure some excursions are worth it. The scenery in itself is worth the port.

Bergen, Norway

4 out of 5
We did the funicular train up the mountain and the panoramic views were breathtaking. We left the ship as soon as we could to get to the funicular train early, on our way back the queue was extremely long and busy, so I would recommend getting there early if you are not doing it through an excursion. There’s also a big park for kids at the top of the mount so really worth a trip for families with small children!

Southampton (London), England

Geiranger, Norway

5 out of 5
Make sure to watch the approach into Geiranger Fjord, it was spectacular.

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
Disembarking felt a bit more stressful then embarking. Obviously the buffet was busier than usual, but the terminal felt overcrowded and the luggage section was a bit all over the place
