Good but not quite what I expected.

Review summary

I'm getting ready to get on Anthem again for a cruise to the Bahamas. I hoping to have a better experience than last month.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
They had a last minute Coast Guard inspection so we were all crammed in to the port and had to wait 1 1/2 hours before boarding.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Staff is always attentive, but the quality of food wasn't up to RC's normal level. Only ate in Main Dining Room, Sorento's, Café 270 and Windjammer. Pizza is always good in Sorento's. There was a ton of pre-cruise hype on Café 270 but the sandwiches were mediocre. MDR food was okay, nothing exceptional, and the Windjammer buffet had a lot of food but most was what I would have consider nouveau cuisine, and nothing basic except mashed potatoes and only mostly cauliflower as the vegetable. Cold mixed vegetables if you like that, and a lot of Indian dishes which I don't like at all. I ate a lot of hamburgers and hotdogs.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Sat around pool which was fine. Tried to go in casino but with all the smoke we couldn't breathe.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Music around the pool was so loud when the musicians or DJ played that you couldn't carry on a conversation without screaming at the person sitting next to you. We Will Rock You was good.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
MDR waiter was pleasant but slow. I think it was his first time as a waiter rather than a backup. Room steward was nice, always remembered our names, but never remembered the few things we requested.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
After having been on Allure of the Seas 11 months ago, I felt very closed in on Anthem. Just different. Ship was very clean and well-maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
As expected for a small balcony room.

Ports of call

Cape Liberty (Bayonne), New Jersey Did not visit port

Was only there to get on/off the ship.

Boston, Massachusetts

4 out of 5
The market area was great.

Portland, Maine

3 out of 5
It's okay. I think Portland is best via excursions which we did on our last cruise. This time we decided to get off the ship and walk around. It's okay.

Bar Harbor, Maine

5 out of 5
This is always the BEST port to just walk around, visit shops, eat lunch. Did excursions in the past which were also great.

Saint John, New Brunswick

4 out of 5
Had a great time walking around the port and having lunch. Did excursions in the past which were also great.

Halifax, Nova Scotia

2 out of 5
Halifax is meant only for excursions which we did on our last cruise. This time we decided to get off the ship and walk around. Nothing to be seen or do.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Expect to wait in a long line if doing self disembarkation.

Sorry you had such a bad cruise. Maybe you should try another line. We love the Anthem and think it is a great ship. Not their fault the Coast Guard decided to do an inspection. Hope your next cruise is better.

Sorry you were not happy. We went on this cruise the end of Sept and had a great time. The Anthem is a beautiful ship with lots to do.
