My wife and I along with our friends have been on quite a few cruises and we really like Royal and its sister brand Celebrity. This turned out to be a really great cruise. We spent 3 days before the cruise in Manhattan near Times Square to see the sights of New York City. I highly recommend this to anyone who has't spent time in NYC
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Perfect, we opted for the Key program and embarkation was great
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
We ate primarily at Coastal Kitchen which was excellent. We found Chops Grill to be kind of overpriced and actually the food was just as good at Coastal. Buffet was average, nothing special
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Bumper Cars were fun but they really need to run them more often. They way they do it now causes ridiculous lines. I was going to do the I Fly experience but it was closed because of weather.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
Shows were excellent, especially "The Gift?
Children's Programs
No Kids
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Staff was very attentive although I must say our room steward was nearly invisible when I finally did see him he told me he had 18 rooms to service. That seems like a lot to handle. He did his job well however
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Anthem is a beautiful ship although I must say I liked the Oasis class ships better (Alure etc)
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
My wife and I found the Jr. Suite on Anthem to be very spacious and the layout is great. The mattress is very hard but turned out to be fine when we had the room steward add a mattress topper.I
Ship tip
If you want to see a show book early because this cruise line like others makes you reserve everything.
Since this is a Tender accessed port we had problem getting off the ship. For some reason around 12:00 when we wanted to get off to go to our excursion the tenders stopped coming. This caused a huge line to form thankfully we had the Key so we didn't have to stand in line. Getting back on board was ridiculous, a huge line formed at the port to board the tenders causing the ship to have to delay departure by a couple of hours to get everyone back on board. Bar Harbor is a great port but the getting on and off the ship war terrible
