Review summary

We have enjoyed all of our RCCL cruises ( we’ve done 4 in the last couple years with family and friends) but this time we were very disappointed that RCCL wouldn’t allow our disembarkation 2 days later but couldn’t give us (or our travel agent who also called on our behalf, or even the Canadian Border Patrol agent who told us we should certainly have been able to get off in St John and he even talked to RCCL guest services?!) any reason why other that “issues in that port”?

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Much smoother and more efficient than our last several embarkation- glad RCCL found a way to make it faster!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Very pleased with all dining experiences in main dining and Windjammer

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Hot tub and North Star- all great

Entertainment

4 out of 5
We’ve all been on that ship within the past couple years and seen the main shows so we tried different things this time, The Juggling act was outstanding!

Children's Programs

All seniors

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our room steward was excellent! All waiters were also excellent and bartenders were also ver4y good.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Repeat cruisers on the Anthem because we liked everything about it. We live closer to the Baltimore port but preferred not to take the Grandeur so we drove almost 3 hours to be on the Anthem

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We enjoy the balcony experience and our group had 5 adjacent cabins so we had the balcony partitions removed to be able to hang out when going in and out of port and having a glass of wine before dinner.

Ship tip

It’s a great ship- they won’t be disappointed!

Ports of call

Cape Liberty (Bayonne), New Jersey Did not visit port

Got right on/off the ship because of the long drives. We experienced weather issues because the port of Boston closed so our first night was spent in Port Liberty. The Captain cruised around the New York skyline when it was all lit up at night- a beautiful bonus!

Boston, Massachusetts

4 out of 5
Because of the port closing, we had very little time in Boston. Many passengers lost their excursions through no fault of RCCL. Our group of 9 did a Gral Y Line Hop off/Hop on tour but we had no time to hop off so we stayed on and at least got to see the sights even if we couldn’t experience them.

Portland, Maine

5 out of 5
Yes- we did the PW02 Portland Highlights and Lighthouses and it was excellent.

Bar Harbor, Maine

5 out of 5
We were not able to get the RCCL tour for 9 guests because it filled up so fast soo we did the Oli’s Trolley Acadia National Park Tour which was outstanding- one of the best tour guides (Mike G) we’ve ever had! Loved the town and had a fabulous Lobster Roll at the Side Street Cafe.

Halifax, Nova Scotia

5 out of 5
Loved each point even though they all had a very different vibe. We did the Peggy’s Cove tour and were very pleased.

Saint John, New Brunswick Did not visit port

My husband and I had to get off the ship to fly home early because our daughter was being inducted into the Atyhletic Hall of Fame at her University on Friday night (which we did not know about over a year before when we book this date). Unfortunately, RCCL would not let us disembark in St John NB even though a Canadian Border Patrol Official told me when I called them directly that they do it all the time and not only for medical emergency situations. The RCCL employees also told me that we would be able to do that but our request was denied. We found out at the debarking meeting attended by about 75 passengers who were getting off the ship early, that some were getting off in St John? We were extremely disappointed that we had to get off 4 full days early and incur the expense of a hotel and additional meals, and miss 2 more days of the cruise with our other 7 family members and guests.

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
We had to attend a meeting to go over disembarkation/Customs which was expected but 8 people who were also getting off did not come to the designated meeting location on time and after they announced them repeatedly, we ended up sitting there for an hour. When we finally got going, it took only a few minutes and again, the 3 Canadian Border Patrol agents at the customs desk said they could see no reason we had to get off that day and c ouldn’t debark in St. John NB.
