Review summary

This was mine & my Husband’s first cruise so we didn't do any excursions or pay for anything extra, like packages or pictures. We still had an amazing time and we are definitely Cruisers now. We will be going on one, hopefully every year now!!

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Great! Went so fast and So organized. Fort Lauderdale port is awesome, Taxi pulled right up and they took my bags and pointed me straight to the check in. Security was fast and then they get people threw so fast that there wasn't any lines. We were on the boat in about 15 mins tops. It was great!!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
We went to the main dinning room for 4 dinners of the 7 nights. We had the anytime dinning and only stood in line 1 night and it was for about 10 mins, not long. The check in girl on the anytime dinning side was fast and sweet. We were sat in all three dining rooms on different nights and we loved the intimate dinner for just my husband and I next to the window in Silk so we had the ocean view dinner on the first night onboard. Our 2nd dinner we were placed at a 2 person table next to the railing that looks down into the other dinning room below us in The Grande and we loved it so much bc we were in the entertainment when they did the napkin swinging and the conga lines and dancing. Our 3rd dinner we were placed in American Icon between two other couples in the far back, very close to the kitchen (no noise problems though) and we hated it. Our waitress was ok that night but not the best. The couples next to us were pleasant and talked to us which made it better. We could hear action going on but couldn't see anything back in the back where we were seated but it didn't bother us that that night bc we had people to talk to. The 4th night we were placed in the same spot but no one else was there at the same time as us so we didn't have the other couples to talk to next to us. When we heard the action going on and the chef coming out to do a meet and greet we were upset bc we couldn't see or hardly hear anything way in the back behind a wall. We loved Seafood night with the lobster but we did not like our same waitress that we had the night before as well. She was rude this night and absent a lot. She told me that I was difficult simply because I asked her to make my veggies something different than what comes with the lobster meal. Then after bringing our food she was missing for a while so I asked the helper to tell her we would like more lobster, 2 a piece (they’re small tales). The helper was pleasant but he couldn't do anything except bring bread and water. She finally came over and very rudely said I heard you couldn't find me, why!? I was right over here and she pointed to a few tables close to us. I politely said I didn't see you, sorry and asked her to bring us the tales. She lied, she was not anywhere near us and it was uncalled for to get attitude with us at all. So we waited on her to bring the tales for a while and she only brought 2 tales not 4 like we asked so by then we just ate them and left. I was going to ask for a different table any other night since we hated the location of that table and the waitress but we ended up eating at the windjammer for the other nights. Seafood night was the best to me at Windjammer though! They had crawdads and so much fish so I was happy. Taco Night at Windjammer was my husbands favorite, the nachos were so good! We had lunch on our first day onboard at Windjammer and the line was long but they managed to get us through pretty quickly, around 15 min wait. They do come out and suggest different places to eat that aren't as crowded while you wait but we stayed in line and enjoyed lunch. We are fans of buffet style restaurants anyways so we liked it’s vibe and all the window seating to look out at the ocean! We ate at Solarium one day for Breakfast thinking it was gonna be 16 yr old and up so we could have a romantic breakfast but there were kids everywhere. We stayed anyways and managed to find a nice small table next to the lil flowing stream they have so it was relaxing and tranquil. The line here was the longest we waited the whole time onboard. About 20 mins to get up to the buffet. We ate at Windjammer the rest of the days for Breakfast and it is definitely buffet food but not so bad that we didn't enjoy it. We ate at Sorrento’s for lunch twice and it’s so fast, just walk up and tell them what pizza’s you want and they slice it and hand you your plate and then you’re sitting and eating. I like the location too bc your in a busy area so you can listen to a live band or people watch! We ate lunch at Wipe Out Cafe by the pools one time and it was just lil snacks and pizza so not that great. My husband loved the ice cream machines though, the chocolate one taste just like a frosty from Wendy’s. All in all I would give all the food onboard that we ate a 6/10 bc it’s good but not great. It’s NOT fancy restaurant quality food but we didn't eat at any of the extra cost restaurants that are probably really good. We heard Johnny Rockets had free breakfast but never got over there in time but when we did it was at full capacity according to the app and the restaurant locaters on the walls by the elevators so we didn't even try. We didn't like that without a beverage package (our first cruise so we were just trying it out without any extras) you have to go all the way to Windjammer anytime you want lemonade bc it was the only place with it and the orange juice and apple juice at breakfast was just concentrate not the real stuff like it says they have online. And if your at a show and ask a waiter to bring you a glass of water they act so rude about it like you should leave and go find water elsewhere. I didn't understand that!?! They only give you tap water or unsweet tea from a dispenser everywhere else. Next time we will at least get the soda package so it’ll be easier to just go anywhere and get a drink.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We did every activity except the rock climbing wall, we wanted to but it was always closed when we had time. The FlowRider show that the crew puts on was our 2nd favorite, the Sports Staff was amazing! We loved how they also helped us learn how to surf on the flowrider machines by holding our hands until we were ready. Mini golf was fun and we did two back to back hour long iceskating sessions bc it was so fun and hilarious to watch everybody wipe out, including ourselves! The zip lining was just to short, it’s not even worth the time it takes to put their shoes on and all the gear it takes just to go 4 secs on the zipline. Maybe if they let you go about 3 times in a row it woulda been better. We had a blast with every activity. We also found that the pools were not as packed as we thought they were gonna be so we enjoyed that. At night the Solarium had the 24 hour hot tub that we got in several times but they do not enforce the 16 yr old and up rule and we saw many kids in there every night. Would have been much nicer to enjoy just an all grown up hot tub. There are so many activities that you stay busy all day so we loved it!!

Entertainment

5 out of 5
I think we did every activity except Mama Mia, we wanted to see that but I cancelled the reservation bc we didn't want to sit inside for 2 and 1/2 hours when we could be doing an outside activity at 2 in the afternoon when I had reserved it. The AquaShow was the best, we watched it 2 times. If you have reservations I would suggest getting there a good 30 mins before the show to be able to get a seat. We showed up 15 mins before the show and was forced to sit on the first row, turned out to be super cool though and we loved it but didn't have a seat to lean back on for the hour long duration of show. They had already started letting the people in the without reservations line start taking seats 15 mins before the show and they are supposed to do that like 5 mins before show time. We thought it was unorganized and people were just everywhere and so pushy but once we found a seat and relaxed, the show was amazing. We went again and they let us just walk in 30 mins before the show without a reservation bc it wasn't packed full that night. We played Trivia about 8 times. We watched Karaoke. We wanted to play Bingo but it cost extra. The Ice show was great. Belly Flopping Contest was hilarious and the High Diving Competition was awesome. My Husband participated in the World’s Sexiest Man competition and I loved it!!! So funny! We also both participated in the Quest Game and it fun. We also watched the Headliner Show, Comedy Shows twice, Love and Marriage Game, Newlywed Game, and many more. The Scavenger Hunt was so awesome, kept us busy the whole time and got us familiar with a lot of the crew! We didn't spend any money in the Casino but went several times and watched people play and got $2 Mimosas at Happy Hour. We had a blast with every activity and all the entertainers and host were magnificent and hilarious.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
We thought everyone was helpful and Sweet. We only had one bad waitress in the Main Dining Room, American Icon.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Very Clean and Organized. Everything was beautiful and well maintained. The layout was fine and the ship being as big as it is, it never felt crowded.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We were in Cabin 9185 and the size surprised us. We never felt cramped and we loved being in about the middle of the boat. Our Room was very clean and our housekeeper was very nice. We loved the towel animals and thought everything was perfect!

Ship tip

Unless you are a huge water or unsweet tea drinker, I would suggest getting atleast the refreshment package.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

5 out of 5
We thought Port Everglades was so easy, we flew in and had a taxi bring us over and they pull right up to the front and let you out. They had our bags, went past security check, checked in, and going up the ramp to the ship in about 15 mins. Loved our first experience!

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We carried our own bags bc we only had two, so we grabbed our bags that morning and headed to disembark and went through everything in like 5 mins and walked right up to a taxi and left. So easy!

Glad you enjoyed it. Cruising is our favorite way to travel. We rarely purchase anything over and above the basic cruise fare and tips and have a great time. I see lots of complaints that the shipping charges extra for everything, but there is no requirement that you do anything that costs extra to have a good time
