Review summary

Great first cruise. We will probably go on another cruise, but it will need more port days so the pools aren’t so crowded.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Very easy embarkation with very friendly staff.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food was good to very good. I can’t rate as excellent but it was better than I expected for a cruise and mass produced meals. No real complaints.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Very cool wine bar. Staff was very nice and helpful with our wine selection. Most of the couples we met on the ship were in Vintages.

Entertainment

Very unsatisfied with the pool experience. Way to many chair hogs. I blame Royal because they were not removing towels and letting others have chairs. This led to guests moving others stuff and multiple virbal altercations. One of which needed security to break up. This issue only was present on sea days. Port days the pools were empty with plenty of chairs.

Children's Programs

5 out of 5
We attended a comedy show and Quest. Comedy was absolutely hilarious. Quest was very cool. Only complaint was the length. Both could have been longer.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. I think that was the greatest part of trip.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Very clean. If you are a germaphobe then this ship is for you. Every dining area had a attendant squirting hand sanitizer on each persons hands as they walked. Staff was constantly cleaning everything. I have never felt cleaner.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
It was nice having balcony but we never really used it. I feel we would have used an outside balcony much more. Our plans were to sit on balcony and enjoy coffee each morning. But then we realized real quickly that you must rush to the pool area at the butt crack of dawn if you want a chair. Room was very clean and our attendant was great.

Ship tip

Carry your own luggage off the ship before 8 am. They call this express checkout. If you leave luggage outside your room the night before they will take luggage to the disembarking area for you. But then it’s quarantined until they release it. This didn’t appear to happen until after 8 am. Probably only works if you have 1 suitcase per person. I saw some people with 3-4 suitcases and in this case they struggled.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

We only saw Fort Lauderdale for one night. We found a Very cool area near the beach. Ate at Casablanca Cafe based on another persons recomendation. I recommend this place. Great view of ocean.

Nassau, Bahamas

Blue lagoon was awesome. Sea lion experience was fun. Chairs are free to use on the beach.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

Went snorkeling at turtle island. This was fun. Not as many fish as I had hoped to see. Worth the visit though. Didn’t have time to see any of the island.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

5 out of 5
One of my favorite islands. We didn’t do anything but visit some of the businesses we had went to on a previous trip. Still lots of damage on the island. But they will rebuild. Still my favorite vacation destination.

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
We downloaded app that the cruise line preached about. Unfortunately the app would not work. This cost us about 20-30 minutes. Those with app blew right passed us to the express lane. This was slower experience then I would have preferred but considering 6400 people were disembarking, probably was pretty quick.

You won’t find more pier days and the pools can be crowded but your biggest issue was going on a ship geared toward families on spring break We love royal, love cruising and we’ve experience busy pools and crowds on all cruises but we have never experienced it more than on the spring break cruise we just got off of- NEVER AGAIN!

If it is possible, choose an itinerary that includes Labadee instead of Nassau. That way you have real sand and Beach, tons of chairs, food, drink, etc. Since RC owns the property, your drink package is good as well. Now you have an excuse to book another cruise!
