Overall, I love cruising with Royal Caribbean. I love the ship design, the organization and the friendliness of the crew. We have always sailed the Oasis class of ships because we are in our fifties, healthy and active and want a variety of entertainment and food options. Some of the specialty restaurants are fantastic and worth the extra cost. Especially the sushi and the Solarium restaurant which is on the Oasis of the seas.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
The lines were long but moved quickly and seamlessly, as usual.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
I'm gluten free so it was a little tricky finding food in the dining hall that I could eat, however, the head waiter had several dishes altered for my diet. The Windjammer buffet had many wonderful choices and gluten free breads as well as a few deserts. My one complaint is that the mixed alcoholic beverages were not as good as they were in years past.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
The pools fill up fast. People put their towels over the chairs before breakfast, leave to eat and then come back. It's really impossible to find a chair near the pool on sail days.
Our adult children loved the rock-climbing walls and we all loved the track.
Casino Royale
2 out of 5
In years past we could invest $20 or so in the slot machines and have several hours of fun. Not so anymore. We heard this from several other passengers as well. The machines just don't pay out. You lose your money within ten minutes.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
We saw every show available on our cruise and they were all wonderful!
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
All of the staff were amazing; very helpful and friendly.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
The ship was beautiful, as always.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
The stateroom was a little more worn than the first time we cruised 7 years ago. Which I guess is to be expected. We spent very little time in the room, which was large enough for us. I love the balcony.
Ship tip
Take advantage of the ships entertainment. It's some of the best in the industry. If you forget to book the shows in advance, don't worry, you can book them all in the "On air" venue once onboard the ship.
We have done excursions, in the past, in Jamaica and found it difficult to deal with the insistent sales pitch of the locals. This time we stayed within the port shopping area and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Mexico is one of my all time favorite ports of call. The people are extremely friendly, the food is fantastic and so is the tequila tasting. Our adult children did a beach excursion because most excursions were cancelled by RCC because of the ferry. They enjoyed the beach but were disappointed with the cancellation. We have done excursions in the past in Mexico and they were all wonderful.
