Review summary

We enjoyed the ship. There is always so much to do. The entertainment is second to none.

We we were very disappointed the the Captain choose to change our route. He said it was because of the tropical depression (hurricane Matthew). The fact is that we were well ahead of the storm and other ships had no problem going to the ports we were supposed to be at. Disney's Majic was in St Thomas the same day, they had absolutely no issues. Adventure of the Seas (a RCI ship) was in the exact same area. The Captain made a bad decision that ruined a lot of people's plans. One couple was getting married on St Thomas. I got the impression that this ship is not the most sea worthy ship and they avoid weather at all costs or the Captain jumped at the chance to take us to their private island Labadee (in Haiti) directly in the path of Hurricane Matthew!  In Labadee RCI gets an opportunity to just make more money off of the passengers.

The only standout was Claudio in the Chops restaurant. He was incredible and a true professional. He went above and beyond. Claudio gave us the WOW factor.

Maybe consider a cruise that is not during hurricane season. We got a glancing blow from Matthew where I live and there are loads of trees down, debris all over the place, the end of Jax Beach pier is gone, roads are washed out and some people still don't have power. This storm was no joke. It also had tons of rain. Maybe being on St Thomas during a massive rain event would have been fun, but I doubt it.

There are things going on behind the scene that the passengers are not privy to & decisions are made based on that. Personally we don't care if we ever go to a port. We enjoy being on the ship-- not having to make the bed, cook, being waited on hand & foot, great entertainment, meeting new people, etc. Hurricane Matthew hit our town yesterday--not a good experience.

The captain did this for your safety and the safety of the several thousand passengers. If other ships chose to take their original course, their captain was using his judgment which could have been a disaster. Thank ypur captain for having your safety in mind.

I agree it would suck to have your ports changed, but don't you think it is better to be safe than sorry? I sure would...

I have not talked to anyone that had their plans ruined because of the change of itinerary. We went to the same ports just backwards. I appreciate that since I didn't want to be anywhere near the storm. We had several choppy sea days and some rain because of it. Just because you think there was no reason to change doesn't mean it wasn't a good idea. They didn't just do it to piss you off.

Actually it was all just a conspiracy and Mathew never happened

I don't think the captain has 100% say on the issue. He has input, but often the cruise line calls the shots. Maybe there was a reason to not be there. Sometimes you just have to make the best of it.
