Review summary

Considering this was my Daughter's first cruise and MY first cruise, things were a bit overwhelming! It was stressful, I won't lie. I was lucky to have a great couple of friends, one an experienced cruiser and travel agent, help me cross the t's, and dot the i's. It is difficult to single out one thing as my favorite. The entire experience, the ship and all of her activities,  the shore excursions, the people, all made this vacation one to remember.

Ship tip

Arrive for meals earlier rather than later! When there's six thousand plus on board, lines begin to form the later you arrive...The Windjammer is the place to be!

I can see how the oasis is overwhelming for a first time cruiser. My first ship was the Adventure, and I thought that was big! I'm glad that even with the largeness and the stress, you still had a good time! I do agree, start looking for your next cruise now, or even better yet, do it while you are on board. If you plan to stick with Royal for a significant chunk, sign up for their crown and anchor club too! Embarking is always faster when I do not have to stand in a huge massive line! Welcome to the cruise life!

Congratulations on successfully drinking from the fire-hose of choices and activities that modern cruising offers.  The ideal would be to have an experienced AND objective friend or travel agent that can spend hours describing the choices and matching them to your preferences for cruise vacations.  We had this many years ago and the cruise industry was a little more attentive to the individual, versus the masses of today.

At this point, you have taken an excellent first step and you have a foundation to assist you with the next adventure.  I would advise that you do lots of research, have trusted advisers, but make your own decisions.  Avoid anyone that tells you there is only one ship, or one cruise, or experience that is the best.  There is a world of cruising fun out there, but as a cruiser that has experienced many cruises, cruise lines, over many years, you took one heck of a great first step.  Cruise on.  One advice from me to consider - start planning your next cruise now, the planning, research and anticipation is part of the fun for us:-)

Welcome to the Cruise Club! We did Oasis and that was stressful for us too, mainly the first couple of days. By the end of the cruise we wish we had two more days though. That class of ship is very fun but is overwhelming once you board. I remember basically being dumped into the Promenade deck at embarkation and feeling very lost. Once we found Windjammer and sat down to breath, things were a lot better!
