Review summary

I am someone who always reads reviews.  I have learned that I should take about 50% of what I read.  The people who complain about everything on a cruise, from service to food to entertainment, I don't believe are capable of liking anything.  There are always bumps with any vacation.  If you set your expectations in the realm of "private yacht vacation" then you will be really bummed to go on any large cruise ship.

I went on the Allure of the Seas for Mothers Day 2016.  I took my 83 year old mother and 60 year old sister.  We had a Boardwalk room  #10725.  I had a good view of the Aquatheater, Boardwalk and the ocean.  Loved this room. Sat out at night and watched movies and people watched with my wine.  I actually saw a few large fish jumping next to the ship one afternoon.  I'd read complaints about it being noisy.  During the diving shows it was loud but they were only a half hour long and I would just go watch it again from my balcony.  Room was smaller than a Carnival balcony room but I liked having an entertaining view versus an ocean to stare at.   I'd take these inside balconies any day.   The Central Park inside balconies had a much quieter less active view.

Entertainment was great.  We went to a different show every night.  I had to laugh that more and more of the music on ships is 70s and 80s which tells you they are changing with the "new" older crowd.  I happen to be in that group.  Shows are the best part of your evening I think and you should go even if your think its not for you.  Comedians were really funny, ice show, water show, Mamma Mia, Blue Planet and Mo5ic were all different and fun to watch.  They have an indoor 3D movie theater and they showed movies outside too.  Bars throughout the ship had nightly bands, singers, dancing and karaoke.  There was no reason to be in bed before 1am.

Food was really good.  I usually go to the buffets for breakfast and lunch and to the dining room for dinner.  I had no complaints.  So many choices to choose from.  Had a wonderful steak dinner in Chops one night.  Service was always prompt and friendly everywhere I went.  Where else can you go and have 2 appetizers, 2 dinners and 3 desserts if you want.  Anything you don't care for you can switch.  Servers do everything with a smile.  Complain about the food??  Never.

My sister tried the Flowrider.  That was fun to watch people of all ages try out.   I could watch the rock climbing wall and Zipline from my balcony.  I didn't get to try these but I will next time.  Daytime pool activities were much quieter than some Carnival cruises.  There were the usual bellyflop and sexy man competitions but they were held in the Aqua theater.

Getting on and off the ship was always smooth and didn't take too long for me to complain.  I guess the people upset about the "selling" on a ship don't realize that's the way it is on all large cruise ships and a lot of people love it.

This is a ship I would go on again.  This is a ship I would recommend.  If walking a lot is not for you than this ship is probably too big for you.  I did see people with scooters.   Remember to have an open mind and a smidge more patience when traveling.   Keep expectations realistic and vow to have a fun relaxing day every morning when you wake up.  You are on vacation!

If you need the sofa bed its really tight to get around the room. Thats really your only walking area. My sister slept on it closed so we had more room. Luggage can be stored under the twin beds.

There are a lot of large truck like taxis to bring you into town. $7pp. Get through all the souvenir shops and you'll see them.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

Water taxis will bring you to a small beach. $7 RT. There are a lot of shops 1 block back.

I am sitting at 96 days before I get to sail on her. I cannot wait. Sailed Enchantment the beginning of the month and had a blast. (Saw none of what those complainers did for sure) I def agree. It is the attitude you have going in. Some people always feel they are owed for every little mishap. Sad to let a wonderful privilege like cruising go to waste. Some people never get one cruise or vaca.

Great review. It sounds like we have similar attitudes. I generally look for overall patterns in reviews. Like you said some people are hard to please so if there are a small number of bad reviews I tend to ignore them. If there are a large number of complaints then I pay attention. I too love St. Maarten. I am an aviation fan so Maho Beach where the planes come in real low is always something I like to see. And St. Thomas has some beautiful beaches & mountain scenery.

Amazing review. You sound like me. I'm totally laid back. Seriously what is the point of complaining? No cruiseline can make 6000+ people all happy! Especially when the ratio of passengers to "service crew" is 50:1! I don't even have that many students in my sophomore English class! And most adults are worse than teenagers! I love cruising. I've been on some "bad" ships before, but I always made a point to find a few positives in every bad situation. I agree don't ever set your expectations so high because you will be disappointed. People are people, mistakes are made and sometimes we have bad days. I got 20 more days until I sail in the Allure and I am Soooo excited!!!!

I AGREE totally with everything you posted! Ive sailed allure and love my boardwalk balcony! I book it every time. I have been on ocean view balcony on other ships too, but love boardwalk balcony on oasis and allure ☺

We can't wait to go on Allure next year. We did Oasis (just the 2 of us) and both loved it and disliked it (the biggest thing for us was there would be long stretches when you never saw water as the ship is so big). We had a great cruise, but so far, Freedom is our favorite class. Anyway, at the end of our Oasis cruise we went to the desk and booked Allure for a family vacation. We know that it is the best multi - generational ship out there. Everyone is going to have an awesome time! Della's review gets me even more excited -

I saw this long review and almost didn't read it. I'm glad I read it. I have been on the Allure and at first didn't like it because it was so huge. Let's say overwhelming compared to the other RC ships I've been on. Your review included so much information for people that are looking for a great ship to sail on. I will say one more thing, all RC ships are great ships.

Thanks everyone for the kind words on my review.  I am so happy to have added some insight to even one persons trip.  Any questions, feel free to ask.

Love this! I know some of those complain-about-everything types! Happy to say I am not one of them. You reap what you sow.

So agree. I've been on the other end also. I've grown so accustomed to the big ships of Royal Caribbean that when we went on the Regal in February we were so bored we had to take another Royal Caribbean ship a month later. I see why people take the same cruise lines. We can't wait for the Harmony next February. Btw we're age 70 and just did our 8th cruise mostly R.C., and besides Princess did one on Noregian Getaway. We'll be sticking to R.C. from now on. I love both the excitement and quiet places on any ship. Just fun to dream and plan for months before each cruise. High points of the year.

Happy anniversary! We have 65 more days to go. It's all I can think about. Soooo excited. They could serve me tuna fish sandwiches all week, and I would still love it. LOL😀

Spot on about those that complain about everything. We were on Oasis when it first came out and had a Central Park balcony. Quiet but you could still people watch. On Allure in 9 days for anniversary cruise. We literally have the stateroom 1 level up from Della. Booked it for the view and glad that it isn't terribly noisy. Haven't been able to concentrate on work for a week already!

I booked an ocean view balcony, but della426, you've piqued my interest for the boardwalk balcony. I'll have to try that, if I'm fortunate enough to go again next year. Thank you for your awesome review.

Amen della426. If you are blessed enough to be able to cruise, life is good. What is there to complain about? You could be sitting at home watching TV. Some people just need to relax and enjoy their blessings.

I think you're right on the money della426...too many people don't look for the good things in life. I love cruising and have been fortunate enough to have had positive experiences on all of my cruises. We have always cruised with RCCL and have always been very pleased with this cruise line and their services.
