Review summary

This is our first cruise post-pandemic. We are Diamond level on Royal and have done in far excess of 100 cruises over the years on Royal and other cruise lines. Previously, Royal was our favorite cruise line. Now..?? We observed several changes reference Royal cutting corners to save money. All the room stewards have more cabins to clean, they are VERY busy and overworked. The wait staff have more tables to serve. The are VERY busy and overworked and don't have much time for you. Food quality and selection has gone way down. Entertainment is pretty much B-grade stuff. However, in spite of all this, we still enjoyed our cruise and glad we went.

Food in the MDR was the reason for our disappointment. Royal has made big changes to their menus. Each night is a THEME night,(Mexican, Caribbean, etc) and the menu is VERY limited. No substations and no "Always available." Eg on Mexican night, we were forced to eat salad in the windjammer, or just go hungry that night. FOOD is a major reason we cruise. and we won't cruise Royal again as long as they keep the menu policy.

Not quite up to par with some of the Oasis class ships, but OK. TV in the room was not too good so it beat sitting in the room.

Service and Staff

Staff was wonderful. Wait staff was embarrassed by the food menu and even apologized. Our room was kept very nice.

For an old girl she is in great shape. They have taken good care of her.

Cabin / Stateroom

We loved our Jr Suite. Very comfortable, Some minor problems with the A/C forming condensation on the vents. Also toilet stopped flushing on the last morning as we were leaving.

Ship tip

Don't expect a lot from the food. It helps if you are not picky about what you eat.

Sorry to hear the cruise wasn't the best for you. But, I'm looking forward to Mexican night 😄. I haven't cruised since 2016 so I don't think I'll really notice a difference. It will be new all over again 😄.

We have always been Royal fans. But we just got home from our 2nd MSC cruise, and MSC is now our #1 cruiseline. Their ships are the most beautiful and you can't beat their prices. You should try them.

Appreciate your feedback. Cruising isn’t quite the same as before Covid. It seems to be improving, however. Sorry you were disappointed.
