Review summary

No matter what complaints we have, sailing with royal Caribbean is always worth it. We will do our homework next time and make sure what amenities a ship does or doesn’t have for small children. Outside of that, our experience was memorable for sure. We already booked our next royal Caribbean cruise and will only sail with them!

Embarkation

Not great. Very unorganized. Port staff wasn’t communicating with each other or the guests well.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Started out as 2-star due to long wait times between courses, but our waiter and assistant turned our experience around.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Fitness center was great. Children’s pool area was very underwhelming. We spent most of our time here since we had a 2 year old with us, and all they had for him to do was a little slide. The other kids area was no better, just a slightly bigger slide.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We were only able to catch a few shows, but what we did was was top notch!

Children's Programs

1 out of 5
They have NOTHING for children under 3. We were expecting at the very least an open-play area for children that we could take our child to for some play time. The areas they had were for 3 and up, when we asked if we could bring our child in to play with the other children we were told no because he was not potty trained. I can understand that this ship was not staffed with crew who deal with small children like on the larger RC ships, but we made it clear that we intended to stay and supervise him and would take care of his needs; we just wanted him to have some play time with other children. The staff was adamant that he was not allowed. Very disappointing. They instead suggested that we check-out a toy bag for him and sent us away.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Overall the staff was warm and welcoming. We take issue with our room attendant not taking note of our very consistent schedule. Our room was only made up 1 time a day instead of 2. Not the end of the world, but having sailed with RC before, we expected better.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
In need of an update-which is scheduled for the near future. There was lots of visible rust and carpet wear. I’m sure after the update the ship will be epic.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Size, layout and location were great. The only downside is the distance to the elevator and stairs. It was responsibly clean, but there was lots of noticeable rust on the balcony and a little bit of mold in the shower.

Ship tip

Switch to an oasis or quantum class ship

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

4 out of 5
Port is close to the airport and local attractions. We did an airboat tour on the Everglades and loved it!

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

4 out of 5
Amazing and friendly locals make the experience so much fun whenever we come to labadee!

San Juan, Puerto Rico

4 out of 5
Perfectly located if you want to see what San Juan is all about. It’s also nice because it feels so familiar since there are tons of stores and companies you’d find in the mainland states

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

5 out of 5
COULDNT RATE THIS ISLAND HIGHLY ENOUGH!! So beautiful! The locals were so friendly and the beaches were phenomenal!

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

5 out of 5
Always a good time when we port at Philipsburg! We have taken a taxi to Maho beach 2 times now and it’s always so much fun! We love watching the airplanes come within what feels like inches from your head!

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Much smoother then getting on the ship. They had our luggage easily accessible and we were able to eat a nice breakfast before heading back to reality.

There is a splash pool that he could use. My 4 year old was to little for the big kid pools and was playing with my 15 month old and was told she HAD TO put on a swim diaper despite fully trained.

Glad you were able to enjoy and hope you have checked everything out for your next cruise. The very first cruise I went on was on Adventures of the Seas in 2004. I was hooked, did another in 2005 and then my husband passed away. In 2010 I did a cruise with my siblings. My now husband and I now have done several and he loves it too.

If a child isn't potty trained, they are not allowed in the little kids Splash Zones or pools. So hopefully by the time of your next cruise you won't have any issues

I guess it depends on what you are looking for. The Voyager Class ships are the largest that we have ever sailed and ever want to sail. They have more activities than we will ever use and a lack of activities to attract more families with children is actually a plus for us.
