Billed as a "Fall Foliage " cruise by Royal Caribbean, in reality it turned out to be a geriatric cruise with no Fall colors whatsoever. Most of the passengers were over 65 years old and the service was substandard compared to all the other cruises taken with Royal Caribbean as a Suite and Crown and Anchor club guest.
Embarkation
2 out of 5
Pre-boarding security in Bayonne was unnecessarily extreme with no real Suites expedited boarding.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
The food and main dining rooms were good for 1st time cruisers, otherwise just fair. Chops and Giovanni's were very good, but of course you pay extra those.
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
Shows, pools, jacuzzis and bars, all pretty much standard. Nothing new and innovative.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
Same old same.
Children's Programs
This was more of a geriatric cruise judging from the percentage of older cruisers on board.
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Mostly very friendly and accommodating.
Ship Quality
2 out of 5
Staff did as well as could be expected, but the ship needs a makeover. We had a broken toilet seat for the entire cruise that for some reason they just couldn't fix properly and this was in a suite! I also challenge most cruisers to be able to state that the lights in their suites always worked properly, ours didn't.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
Size and balcony for this class of ship was good. Toilet seat was broken and couldn't be tightened for some reason. Light switches didn't work properly. Shortage of electrical outlets. Plenty of closet space and drawers.
Did Best of Halifax and Peggy's Cove with Shore Excursions, not ship. Peggy's cove was great, just not enough time allowed there and crowded with other tour buses and cars. Excellent photo ops of authentic fishing village and houses. Blustery shoreline and lighthouse.
Just walked around a bit and went to the Irish pub. In hindsight wished we had waited an hour and just did the boardwalk. Some good little dockside eats and drinks. This of course is in lieu of an excursion.
Very friendly welcome by the locals the entire visit. Did an excursion, Island drive and Anne of Green Gables. Very good excursion with stop at PEI Preserves.
Great city to visit. Plenty to see and do around the quaint European style village with cobblestone streets and lots of fantastic restaurants and streetside cafes. Funicular should be done early or be prepared to stand on line for 15-20 minutes. Spent a day and half here.
Never enjoy being corralled into a sitting(sometimes) area with 75-100+ other passengers and waiting to be allowed off the ship in long lines. Best experience ever was on an Oasis class ship in a suite where the concierge escorts you off the ship in small groups bypassing the lines.
Sorry you didn't enjoy your cruise. Just completed ship refurbishments include mechanical refit, public areas and amenities. Cabins get carpeting and furnishings as needed. I can't wait for December to get here. Your suite cabin should have been in good shape and/or issues resolved in a timely manner. There are only 2 electrical outlets in older cruise ships. Anthem has an additional by the bed.
Overbearing security in New York City area is a fact of life Florida is a short flight away.
Just spoke with family in New Hampshire about 3 days ago. The fall change just started in New England about a week ago and is predicted to hit is peak in the next week to 10 days if there isn't a warm up to stall it. The first week of Sept is definitely too early to see the fall folliage.
Sadly you can’t control nature. Fall and leaf color changes seem to be coming later each year. Probably about a month too early for the best colors this year.
