Review summary

Billed as a "Fall Foliage " cruise by Royal Caribbean, in reality it turned out to be a geriatric cruise with no Fall colors whatsoever. Most of the passengers were over 65 years old and the service was substandard compared to all the other cruises taken with Royal Caribbean as a Suite and Crown and Anchor club guest.

Embarkation

2 out of 5
Pre-boarding security in Bayonne was unnecessarily extreme with no real Suites expedited boarding.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food and main dining rooms were good for 1st time cruisers, otherwise just fair. Chops and Giovanni's were very good, but of course you pay extra those.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Shows, pools, jacuzzis and bars, all pretty much standard. Nothing new and innovative.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Same old same.

Children's Programs

This was more of a geriatric cruise judging from the percentage of older cruisers on board.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Mostly very friendly and accommodating.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
Staff did as well as could be expected, but the ship needs a makeover. We had a broken toilet seat for the entire cruise that for some reason they just couldn't fix properly and this was in a suite! I also challenge most cruisers to be able to state that the lights in their suites always worked properly, ours didn't.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Size and balcony for this class of ship was good. Toilet seat was broken and couldn't be tightened for some reason. Light switches didn't work properly. Shortage of electrical outlets. Plenty of closet space and drawers.

Ship tip

Don't cruise out of Bayonne.

Ports of call

Cape Liberty (Bayonne), New Jersey

For embarkation, very poor.

Bar Harbor, Maine Did not visit port

Canceled by RCL.

Portland, Maine

Lots of craft breweries. Rented a car and went to Kennebunkport. Enterprise downtown was slow and unorganized, with reservations.

Saint John, New Brunswick

Did the Hop on Hop off. Plenty to see, good port.

Halifax, Nova Scotia

3 out of 5
Did Best of Halifax and Peggy's Cove with Shore Excursions, not ship. Peggy's cove was great, just not enough time allowed there and crowded with other tour buses and cars. Excellent photo ops of authentic fishing village and houses. Blustery shoreline and lighthouse.

Sydney, Nova Scotia

Just walked around a bit and went to the Irish pub. In hindsight wished we had waited an hour and just did the boardwalk. Some good little dockside eats and drinks. This of course is in lieu of an excursion.

Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island

4 out of 5
Very friendly welcome by the locals the entire visit. Did an excursion, Island drive and Anne of Green Gables. Very good excursion with stop at PEI Preserves.

Quebec City, Quebec

5 out of 5
Great city to visit. Plenty to see and do around the quaint European style village with cobblestone streets and lots of fantastic restaurants and streetside cafes. Funicular should be done early or be prepared to stand on line for 15-20 minutes. Spent a day and half here.

Disembarkation

Never enjoy being corralled into a sitting(sometimes) area with 75-100+ other passengers and waiting to be allowed off the ship in long lines. Best experience ever was on an Oasis class ship in a suite where the concierge escorts you off the ship in small groups bypassing the lines.
