6nt NE/Canada on Adventure of the Seas was all around an excellent trip from start to finish. Great ship, great crew, and excellent food. What more could you ask for? Very impressive embarkation/disembarkation. I particuarly love the Royal Promenade. We never felt crowded. There was very few times we ever had to wait for an elevator. There are enough elevators to handle the amount of people on the ship unlike some other lines.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Embarkation at Cape Liberty was the smoothest and fastest embarkation/disembarkation of all the cruises I have taken.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
Food in the MDR was excellent with ample choices for all courses. Buffet was typical and for the most part only did breakfast and lunch there. Our food was so good in the MDR that we didn't want to miss any dinners, especially lobster night.
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
Hot tubs were oversized which was great because this was a Labor Day Cruise so temps were a little cooler. Mini golf was sufficient also. We enjoyed watching the FlowRider but just watched. We also loved the Solarium adult only area of the ship. The Solarium was clean and spacious.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
Although the entertainment was all very good, I would like to give praise to Peter James the piano player in Schooner's who always had a packed house. He was very entertaining. He was also quite funny during his show. Jess the female singer in the Duck and Dog also did a great job and really attracted a crowd. Ice show was spectacular. We also really enjoyed the Adult Comedy show, The Quest, and Love and Marriage Game Shows. The 70's Disco Dance Party was SPECTACULAR and totally blew us away!
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Room steward Wilson was very good. We also did my time dining and made a reservation for the same time each night, so we actually got the same table, and servers each night and they did a great job. Although the CD and ACD were good, I did feel there were some communication gaps with info. I also felt it should be communicated better about staying on ship time. I have done other cruise lines that really make sure that the guests are aware of time changes. It would also be better to set your cellphone to not switch time zone automatically, set it to manual, to avoid any discrepancies.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
The design of the ship is spectacular. We loved the upgrades done to the ship with the additional activities. I am particularly fond of the Promenade, it is my favorite spot on the ship. Our room was clean and looked to be part of the renovated project. My only complaint is it was noticeable that some upkeep needs to be done with some areas of rust that really stood out.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
We had just stayed in an inside stateroom room 2611. The room was clean, and comfortable. Typical sized inside compared to other lines. The room was obviously part of the upgrades that had been recently done, so there was no obvious signs of wear. A couple of small stains on the carpet but with the amount of guests that go through these rooms it wasn't bad at all. Room was always tended to promptly with the morning making of the bed and the evening turndown service.
Ship tip
There are so many beautiful things about this ship. Remember to stay on ship time. If you take the my time dining you can make reservations to avoid any lines. There really isn't any need to waste money on Specialty Dining unless you really want to because the food in the MDR was excellent. Don't miss the 70's Disco Dance Party in the Royal Promenade!
The port was easy to find but the signage once you get onto port road could be clearer as for drop off of luggage and parking. We did not do anything at the Bayonne port as for excursions.
We did the Pink Hop on Hop off bus and made a stop at Lily Lake and took time to walk around the lake. Then stopped at the first area to see the river rapids flowing toward the Bay of Fundy, it was low tide at the time and the flow was going downstream. Next stop we did was the Moosehead Brewery. By the time we did some samplings at the brewery and let a couple busses go by and got to the next stop which was the Reversing Rapids Skywalk, the tides were changing and we got to see the rapids begin to change flow. We stayed there for about another 40 minutes to take some amazing pictures from the Skywalk of the rapids reversing. A bus comes along every 20 minutes so you can conveniently go at your own pace. It was Labor Day so the museum and some other places were not open, but that gave us more opportunity to spend more time where we wanted to.
Bar Harbor was beautiful. We did the Acadia Natl Park/Lobster Lunch. My only complaint on this tour is that we were taken by large bus and only got 2 short photo stops in the park and in my opinion they werent prime places for photos. The bus goes by so fast that you can't get pics from the bus. So I think if I went again I would do another mode of transportation. I had wanted to do the carriage ride through the park but worried about the weather. It was beautiful what we could see of it, I just would have liked to see more of the prime spots. Cars could pull over to see the good spots but busses couldn't. Lobster lunch or steak if you don't eat seafood was excellent. Steak was very tender and my husband had been served a whole lobster which he said was excellent.
We did Peggy's Cove and Titanic Fairlawn Cemetary. Peggy's Cove was INCREDIBLE. It was a long ride but so worth the trip. I do wish we could have had a bit longer there. Next stop was the Cemetary where some of the Titanic passengers were buried. On our way there the guide told us there was a road closure due to a sink hole at the bottom of the cemetary road so they had to go in a different way from the top of the cemetary. It was on a very steep hill and he said he didn't recommend those with mobility issues to make the walk. I was extremely disappointed as I was looking so forward to that part as much as Peggy's Cove. My husband was a trooper and went to take pictures for me because he knew how disappointed I was. When he returned to the bus he said I never would have made it. The tour guide we had on that tour was incredibley knowledgable and made the long trip out to Peggy's Cove, the cemetary, and back to the ship so much more tolerable with his extensive narratives about the history of all those areas. He was so personable too. I do highly recommend this tour. He even told us about the massive Halifax naval ship explosion !disaster which I had never heard about before. He really did a great job
All I can say about both the embarkation and disembarkation is IMPRESSIVE! Awesome job by all at RC and the Cape Liberty Port on a job well done. I was on the ship by 10:30 am the day we set sail and off the ship and in my car by 9am on disembarkation day. I usually sail out of NY and they have a lot to learn about doing things in a smoother manner. If I didn't have a higher status on the other line I probably would have booked my next cruise on RC, but I have too many perks to just walk away from. Now if RC matched the status then hands down it would be RC for my next cruise.
Thanks for the excellent review. We will be on the October 7th Snowbird migration cruise from Quebec City to Ft. Lauderdale. Looking forward to an amazing cruise aboard the Adventure of the Seas.
