All in all we liked the cruise a lot. This was our second cruise with RCL and our first on a smaller ship and on a northern itinerary. Different but definitely worth it!! We came to the conclusion that we like the bigger ships better, but if you are looking for a more relaxing cruise with great staff and ports the Adventure of the Seas is the ship for you.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Embarkation was very smooth. We booked “The Key” and had Priority Embarkation due to it and due to our Junior Suite. Took about 10 Minutes from arriving at the port to the first steps on the ship.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
The food in the main dining room was very good and had a good variety.
Our daughter has celiac and needs gluten free food. The head waiter Savio took care of it and all went very well. She could order whatever she wanted and they made it possible!
Schooner Bar
5 out of 5
Definitely a place to be. Peter, the piano player, was awesome and we had a great time singing along with all other guests.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
The activities were a bit limited. We used the Flowrider during the special “The Key” hours and it was very nice and not crowded.
Sometimes it was hard to find an empty stop on the pool deck - lots of “reserved” loungers.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
The stage shows were very boring and outdated. I think we never had such bad shows on all our cruises. They definitely need improvement.
The musicians and DJs were very good and entertaining. Go to the Silent Disco - it is so much fun!!
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Overall the staff and the service was very good! We had two negative experiences, one in Chops Grill (in my opinion not worth the money) with a really horrible waiter and one with a lady from Cruise Next. All other staff members were amazing!!
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
The ship”s layout was easy to navigate and everything was clean and well-maintained. Since this a smaller ship we missed some features of the oasis class ships. I think we prefer the bigger ships...
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
The cabin was very clean when we first stepped in and our room steward Roman keep it so the whole cruise. We booked a Junior Suite and the cabin was spacious and comfy. Only the bathroom was a bit small with nearly no storage. The balcony had a good size with 3 chairs and a smaller table.
Ship tip
Book your My Time dinner time via the app to avoid long lines.
This was our least favorite port. Lots and lots of shops selling, as we call it, “tourist crap”.
We rented bikes and explored the Acadia National Park. It was a very nice ride, but be prepared for some hills and climbs and some horseflies.
A very nice port too. We rented a car and visited the Fairview cemetery, Peggy’s Cove and some other beautiful places along the way. We will definitely return to Halifax to see more of this stunning city!
We liked this port a lot. We did a private kayaking excursion with River Bay Adventures. It was absolutely amazing and Jim, owner and guide, was very nice and gave us a lot of information. Definitely one of the best excursions we have ever done!
As a “The Key” guest you will be served a special breakfast in the main dining room. After breakfast one of the staff members escorted us in small groups directly off the ship. All in all a very smooth process that took us about 10 minutes.
Glad you enjoyed your cruise. I really liked your comment about the size of this ship, pointing out that even if you prefer a larger ship that there are some nice advantages of the mid-size and smaller ships as they can deliver a very relaxing cruise with great service. Those strengths along with others keep us coming back to mid-sized RCCL ships in both Royal Caribbean and Celebrity cruises.
