Review summary

My trip was for 22nd August.  At 11pm I was contacted the night before to be told instead of going to the 6 islands I had carefully planned i.e. Antigua, St Lucia, St Martens, Barbados and St Kitts, we were going to 3 islands, St Thomas, Aruba and Bonair.  This was due to Hurricane Danny hitting those islands which turned out to be less dangerous than they first thought. My problem with this is firstly, weather forecasts are mapped out weeks in advance surely they could have let us known sooner with the option to cancel and get our money back? Secondly, the hurricane was downgraded why couldn't  we  resume the original schedule?  Lastly, it was my birthday and I was meant to be meeting friends and family in Antigua And St Lucia and I came with gifts and items to give to them.  At a huge cost to myself I had to ship it to them.

The excursion trips I had planned were non-existent(original trip)  I was told I would not get the money back but it would be used as onboard credit i.e. forced to spend it on the ship which I was angry about.

Overall a 50th birthday trip that turned out to be dissapointing.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
high fat high carbs even the salads had were fatty

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Good...However, not many children turn up to the activivtes i.e., 11-16 so diffficulty for staff to work with

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
good as long as there is children

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Generally good. However, in the main dining room I felt rushed and pressured to eat very quickly

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Cabin a bit cramped with 3 people in it. I should of upgrade to an oceanview

Ship tip

When the ship is in port, thats the best time to use the on board facilities as most of the passengers are on excursion trips

Ports of call

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Read the rules, they can change courses at any time for weather. (I mean come on, that's common sense) Buy your own boat and sail through a hurricane ... lemme know how that goes.

the weather is unpredictable and for your next cruise don't book it from sept till nov, because is the highest season for hurricanes and storms on the Caribbean, and yes thenhurricane was downgraded but I see you don't know how even a simple storm can change all the weather specially the movement of the sea, so be glad that they change the itineraries.

I feel bad for you but it's not a good time to cruise!

Jacky jack I get what everybody saying but its not necessary, everybody has their reasons why they book during this time despite insurance, despite Mother Nature and despite whatever else they come up with it's still disappointing as this is a Big birthday for us :-), so I understand trust me, Sorry hope you can make it your year still:-)..

Agreeing with the others, do your research next time about cruising during hurricane season and be happy

First of all , cruising during hurricane is on you...so to blame anyone or thing is just irrisponsible. Second, do you have any idea what a cruise ship costs? The crew is not going to jeapardize other passengers and crew to enable a whiner to stop at a hazardous location. Third, get insurance. You would have been covered financially. Fourth, I'm just glad I wasn't on your cruise and have to listen to you.

Even though the hurricane was down graded some islands still got hit pretty hard. This is why I don't plan Carribean in summer. I plan Mexico. Carribean in winter. I understand you plan your trip to certain places just like I do, but Mother Nature has the last say. Just be happy you still went and say other islands that are out there

you can't be serious? 2 stars because of a natural occurrence?

Try to 'carefully plan' a trip outside of Hurricane Season next time... You can't fool with Mother Nature.

I've been concerned about what would happen in case of a bad storm. I'm sure sorry that all happened to you!
