Cruise tips
Civitavecchia itself hasn’t got a lot to offer. We stayed overnight to be in plenty of time for the cruise however, Rome is an amazing city which is impossible to see in one day. It is about 1 hour and 20 minutes away from the port.
Went to Taormina, was a beautiful little town with some interesting shops to explore and lovely views of Mount Etna. Enjoyed this town a lot.
Loved Plaka, a village at the foot of the acropolis. Lots of things to see there and many shops to explore. Didn’t do the Acropolis as it is at the top of a hill with no shade and had already seen it on a previous cruise.
Beautiful island although I didnt see the logic of being tendered to the old port and then being taken to the new port to get on a bus to go up the hill. The distance to both pirts was the same. There were far too many people although the island is very pretty.
Not easy to get from ship to town because of building work near the port. The old rustic part of town has its charm and is very natural with its narrow streets and hustle and bustle of everyday life. In contrast the newer side of town is like any other town. Did not do an excursion as had already done pompei on a previous occasion and various other tours. Naples is not the cleanest of Italian ports.
Beautiful and so much to do. Ship docks in the town centre and is easy to get an Uner to the places you want to go to. Lots to do and see, one day is not enough.
